Matt Cassell signs a 6 year extension

6 year extension

I searched for a prior thread and could not find it...Hence posting it....

Will the Bills be able to pay Trent Edwards that kind of money if he has a successful year. After all, Matt has parlayed his one starting season in NE which is a SB bound team into a 63M contract. It is not like Matt at this point is a TOm Brady or actually won a championship. For Gods sake, the Patriots did not even make the playoffs.

When Edwards becomes a successful QB, yes I said when, not if, the Bills will take care of him, and I will not care how much they pay him.

As for Matt Cassell, congratulations. The Chiefs are foolish enough to pay that kind of money to you.

Mark my words, Matt Cassell is just another Scott Mitchell. Depend on that.

One year with the Pets* offensive players all around him and then going to KC, you make the call. I hope he sucks out big time, not just to make Pioli look like a dimwit but also to make Denver look like fools. I still can't believe they tried to get another QB when they had a pro-bowl QB on the roster.

I think that is foolish given the fact they didn't have to offer him anything until after the year and they could have seen how this experiment went first without shelling out $60 million dollars.

Not so sure. These guys cost a fortune these days, even the ones that are good, but not at all great.

This one is 2 years old, and check out the numbers. As much as I blast the Bills FO (mainly Jauron), this might explain to people why they dumped Dockery. They saved pennies this season, but that cap space could mean a ton wrt future signings. If Trent has a solid year, 63 million/6 years will be cheap.

If you know the guy's a good player, then yeah, signing him earlier rather than later is cheaper for you. But if you're not sure whether the guy deserves the contract or not, I think you're better off waiting the year (or at least until he plays some games) to find out whether he's worth it, and pay the small amount of inflation. I'd much rather wait, and pay whatever small amount his contract would go up to, rather than give it to him now, have him suck, and be on the hook for $60 million.

I do see your point, but sometimes a team can't wait. Clements is an example. If they could have signed him before he was a ufa, it would have been a smart move. I don't think it was possible, because he seemed to want out of Buffalo big time. I know that he is a bad example because he was a proven star player, but my point is that once he was a ufa it was all over for the Bills, and the 1st round corner idiocy continued.

KC and Buffalo are similar imo. Not the biggest fan base, loyal fans, AFC teams, cold weather, etc. I don't know how equipped they are to get into bidding wars for a player such as Cassel. Giving him this cash was admittedly a gamble, but it seems to me that smaller market teams have to take chances like this. Then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Is it me or does KC not have the slightest bit of patience with a QB? Draft Brodie Croyle and let him play....what.... 9 games where he had 6ts and 6ints and give up on him. Then fall backwards into Tyler Thigpen who threw 18tds in 11 games and give up on him.

Then you trade for a QB with barley a few more starts than Thigpen and you commit over 60 mil to the guy before he plays a snap in your uniform? Man how things have changed in Kansas City huh?

Look, I know it is a little foolish for the Chiefs to pay him that much, but I will say this, Cassel put up what should have been pro-bowl numbers last year (about 70% completion, almost 4,000 yards, 23 TDs and 13 picks).

I hope Trent has a good season, but I don't think he's going to get 63 million dollars if he, lets say, goes 65% completion, 3500 yards, 24 tds and 18 interceptions...oh, and lets also say, 8-8.

If he hits 70%, 4k and 2.5:1 TD to int ration, maybe.
