Mike In Illinois
There's a little house on Charing Cross Road off Sunset Blvd. in Beverly Hills that most red-blooded males might want to check out. Some guy named Hugh who went to the University of Illinois lives there. How about In 'n' Out Burger for a West Coast treat?
IDBillzFan
wife and kid have been there since last Wednesday... From Encinitas, you're a very short drive to Legoland in Carslbad. Can't remember how old your kids are, but Legoland is a blast for kids of virtually any age. Make sure they have their bathing suits on when you go because it has a kickass waterpark there as well, including You also have Sea World and the San Diego Zoo nearby. By the way, you have a long drive from Encinitas to the Dodgers' stadium, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time for that drive.

The Senator
Don't know how long you're staying, but it's 8 days 'til post time at Del Mar Even if the ponies aren't running, the village is beautiful. Doesn't sound like you'll be in San Diego, but if you are... USS Midway

Dante
San Diego is beautiful. Hotel del Coronado is gorgeous and historical. In LA I really like Universal Studios and particularly City Walk. Lots of nice stuff in Cali. Lots to do.

Chef Jim
If you have a day to kill drive PCH from San Clemente (I don't think it goes to Encinitas, Pendleton gets in the way) to Long Beach. Nice drive and the weather should be good. But a word of advice. Don't call it Cali.
Kevin
We are staying in a beach house in Encinitas I think....going to the Dodgers game Thursday....and have a wedding Friday....beyond that...nothing.... then go back home. California sucks. trust me. I have lived here all my life. It is way too expensive, and you are too far away to see anything cool, like Yosemite or San Fran. Hell, drive to Vegas, or Yuma.
