John from Riverside Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 5 PM....looks like the Dr. Office is making me wait the weekend.
Just Jack Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 It amuses me, reading that knowing that a good number of pinheads here don't know what the CIA is... I learned what it is back when I was 15 and the owners son at the restaurant I worked at had a jacket with the logo/emblem on it.
Booster4324 Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 I learned what it is back when I was 15 and the owners son at the restaurant I worked at had a jacket with the logo/emblem on it. I know a guy who works for a company named NSA in the Internal Affairs department.
John from Riverside Posted July 18, 2009 Author Posted July 18, 2009 Well the doctors office was a lot of help...... They called a few minutes ago Suspected ACL rupture Suspected MCL rupture See your orthopedist This was our family physicians office for christ sake.......are the ligaments torn or arnet they? What does "suspected" mean?
KD in CA Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Well the doctors office was a lot of help...... They called a few minutes ago Suspected ACL rupture Suspected MCL rupture See your orthopedist This was our family physicians office for christ sake.......are the ligaments torn or arnet they? What does "suspected" mean? It means he's a family doctor and not an orthopedist so he can't make that important distinction with certainty.
John from Riverside Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 So the big day arrives when my son can actually be seen by the orthepedic office after we have gone through all of the referrals and hoops from my HMO. And we get in to see......a physician asst who cannot read MRI photos (we were given a disk with several MRI shots of his knee) and goes strictly off what is on the MRI explanation printout which says: "suspected MCL rupture" "suspected ACL rupture" She says....."yep the ACL is definately torn" and we are like "if something is suspected then it has not been confirmed. Can you confirm that for us through these photos" "really could you show us where it is torn we would just like to know for our education" (at this point I am trying to get her to show him the damage so he can accept why he is not going to play this year because he is taking it kind of hard) SHE CANT DO IT So then we ask.....if there is a rupture of the ACL then why is my son not having stability, swelling, or pain problems in that area of the knee (I was asking for my own better understanding not trying to be a jerk or anything) and she says "well maybe you would rather talk to an orthopedist" .......come back on Wednesday WELL @UCK YEAH WE WOULD LIKE TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT AND CAN ACTUALLY SHOW US THE DAMAGE AND EXPLAIN WHY THERE ARE NO SYMPTOMS OF AN ACL TEAR. Expecially when you are recommending surgery in the same @odamn breath as you are telling us you cant read an MRI. What is up with the health care system nowadays? Do people just blindly allow doctors to cut on them without asking questions and getting 2nd opinions? We have been on the phone, picking up paperwork, and jumping through hoops for the past week so we can get real medical evaluation and advice and they give us this person?

I read that Hemet is one of the current test area for the new Obama-care. Seriously, it sucks that you can't get a straight answer. Maybe we've got a doctor in the house to give some perspective?

Seriously, it sucks that you can't get a straight answer. Maybe we've got a doctor in the house to give some perspective? The thing that really bothered me the most was not being able to read the MRI images, take the paper read out from the MRI that used the word "suspected" and then from all of that derived that it was time to set a surgery date. If surgery is needed.......I can accept that and I think my kid will work his mind around it quickly.....but to have someone is is unqualified doing that reeks of incompetance.
cåblelady Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 .......come back on Wednesday Unfreakingbelievable
John from Riverside Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 I sure am glad we went back on Wed. My son's ACL is not torn....it is barely even strained. The damage that was a sprain of the MCL which can be rehabbed No surgery required He will get to play his senior year Just two days ago his physician asst diagnosed him with a ACL tear, an MCL tear, and a broken bone in his knee.......surgery as soon as possible. The actually ortho (the one that can read MRI pictures) says virtually no ACL damage, a slight MCL tear, and no broken bone! I am a little emotional right now...I am so happy for him.

ofiba Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I would just like to know what your son did to deserve this great luck. Looks like Brett is going to be clobbering running backs AND getting straight A's in his senior year.
John from Riverside Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 You know......I was having a rather crappy day. I am now having a AWESOME DAY......life is wonderful.

We were having a conversation on the phone about that right now since I am at work and he went to the ortho appt with his mom. Things were pretty emotional between us....I love him to death and I know what sitting around waiting for a surgery would do to his his last year of high school.....so I was really happy for him. but We also talked about other things.....both of us were expecting the worst news today based off of what had been said previously.....and so my son was talking plainly about the way he was thinking based on that. The education part of this was coming much more into focus for him......
VOR Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Your son in essence has a second chance. Not many people get that. Even fewer seize upon it (and when you're dealing with a teenager...). The time is NOW to tell him "bad grades, no play." Because there is still a high likelihood he doesn't make money playing football.

Chef Jim Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 So it took us 10 pages to find out that not only does your son not study enough he has a low threshold for pain.
John from Riverside Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 So it took us 10 pages to find out that not only does your son not study enough he has a low threshold for pain. LOL I think he could literally go out there and play with a broken hand or something......I know he has played with a separated shoulder. As a LB playing DE you have guys that are over 100 pounds heavier across from you and one of them gave him a pass protection punch so strong it dislocated his shoulder. He went to the sideline....got it popped back into place...and finished the game. I think where he runs into problems is anything "lower body" meaning something that causes him not to be able to run and honestly it is wierd....like a car battery that gets the life sucked out of it or something....something in his "aura" changes.
