Cugalabanza Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 here's one that might work:Jack is former accountant who quit his job to pursue his boyhood dream to be a rent-a-clown. trouble is, he has an upper-crust English accent, who can't get much work because, well, he's just not funny, except in an awkward way. i can see Ricky Gervais playing this role. me, i'm a surly sportswriter, who's taken in this guy only because we were college roommates 25 years ago, and he did my taxes and sat in on my economic exam, which i passed, and figures i owe him a big favor. my wife runs a day-care center, and tries to give Jack some pointers on being a clown. her main goal, however, as women do, is trying to set Jack up with her female friends in order for him to finally get a life and move out. oh, and the title would be: "You Don't know Jack: The Clown Chronicles." jw ADD: i would pitch this to HBO first and NBC second. and i would never approach Fox (because they go through comedies like diapers) or CBS, because i find their comedies to be far too dumbed down and safe. Yes, this is very good. Only, we have some re-tooling to do. Loggia doesn't work with Brits. Biel won't work with kids. And the title, "You Don't Know Jack: The Clown Chronicles" is not available. Apparently, that's the exact title of Jack Palance's first autobiography. Hoo boy! And now Cera's pissed off. This always happens. Show biz!

Show biz! well, i'm not sold on Loggia. and maybe we can get a call in to Vera Farmiga, if Biel's out. this is clearly, however, shaping up to be a Ricky Gervais vehicle, and i can't see it working without him. jw ADD: Mark Ruffalo's in to play the sports writer role.

Vera Farmiga, absolutely! And I like Ricky Gervais a lot too. Mark Ruffalo? Really? He creeps me out a little.
Delete This Account Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Vera Farmiga, absolutely! And I like Ricky Gervais a lot too. Mark Ruffalo? Really? He creeps me out a little. i've found Ruffalo to be very under-rated. especially liked him in "Away We Go." he plays the disheveled brooder very well, and would be a great counter-point to Gervais. and Mark's just a touch more handsome than i. jw

DC Tom Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Can I be the creepy next door neighbor? But then it wouldn't be acting...
Beerball Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 But then it wouldn't be acting... OK, I'll be your love interest. THAT would be acting.
Cugalabanza Posted April 30, 2010 Posted April 30, 2010 Can I be the creepy next door neighbor? Well, Wawrow wants to go high-concept with this thing, so we’re trying to avoid these types of clichés. How are you with accents? We may have you read for the Argentinian ex-circus ringmaster who runs the clown business that Jack keeps getting fired from.

Do I get to wear those fancy gaucho pants and shirts with real blousy sleeves? And a monicle.

And a monicle. sorry, Beerball. if Gervais is involved, that likely means his writing partner Stephen Merchant gets the agent's role, though it will be a bit of a reprise of his role in Extras. we'll have to see about that. speaking of Extras, though, we'll need a bunch of unruly, crybaby kids for the day-care scenes where we might be able to fit you in as a regular. jw
