\GoBillsInDallas/ Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Do you think that this cantilever design is stable, or do you think that additional support is needed?
The Poojer Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 cantilever...i wouldn't leave her Do you think that this cantilever design is stable, or do you think that additional support is needed?
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I don't know it looks pretty top heavy... I think you may need a flying buttress coming from the rear structure. The most important thing you want here is the stability.
WWVaBeach Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Well if it does tip over in either direction at least the fall will be cushioned.
Bullpen Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Art Vandelay would approve! Oh wait, he's an architect... He would still like it!!!!
Beerball Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Do you think that this cantilever design is stable, or do you think that additional support is needed? One strong pole is all that structure is in need of.
damj Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Do you think that this cantilever design is stable, or do you think that additional support is needed? Sorry, can't help ... I'm a mechanical engineer ... I think she needs some serious pipe laid.
ExiledInIllinois Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 One strong pole is all that structure is in need of. A come-along wouldn't hurt either.
Beerball Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 A come-along wouldn't hurt either. Just prop up the buttress, attach some guy wires to the top half and close off the upper opening and she's good to go.
Wacka Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Art Vandelay would approve! Oh wait, he's an architect... He would still like it!!!! I thought he was a latex importer-exporter.
HopsGuy Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I'm an EE so I'm tempted to say that your capacitor isn't properly sized to go with your inductor. Either that or we need to re-bias that Darlington configuration. Captain Sig would send the boys out to knock the ice off.
Guest dog14787 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 She might be a few hundreths out of plumb but within tolerance in my opinion.

stuckincincy Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 My personal favorite and a great Company to work for http://www.bechtel.com/ Also one of Congress's favorites...they are happy to toss people's tax money Bechtel's way. They do lobby - a bit. If history matters...

But if you want to build a safe Nuclear Plant who do you want to call?
stuckincincy Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 But if you want to build a safe Nuclear Plant who do you want to call? Somebody in France. Or Germany. For political reasons we both know, Bechtel hasn't built one here for a long, long time. Their expertise has to be stale...they may well have good designs molding on the shelf, but it's been a long time since they domestically got into the nuts and bolts of construction. Have the subcontractors in a row, waiting for the call. And that matters a lot. Unless you can tell me that they are big players in the European nuke powerplant construction biz, and are booking profits from same. And non-US companies ready to set up shop here.
Guest dog14787 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Somebody in France. Or Germany. Nawww, Sounds expensive, Bechtel can build one cheaper
