Runs okay, has some issues and some rust spots. The car is worthless as a trade-in (and misses the Cash for Clunkers cutoff by 1 measly mpg, dammit!) I put an ad on Craigslist and get a call 25 minutes later. Guy shows up and pays me $900 for it. Have had 3 more calls since. My wife works for a newspaper and want ads used to be their cash cow. Craigslist is partly to blame for the state of newspapers, but you'd have to be crazy not to use them. PTR Posted my girlfriends 2000 Cavalier that needed a fuel pump and had a salvage title. I threw the posting up about an hour before I left work, bunch of calls came in, set up for about 5 different people to look at the car when I got home, a half hour after I got home it was sold..................for $1200 which was about twice what I was expecting to get. By getting rid of a broker, both sides save money, and the best part is that I can wait until the last second for people to skitch on their commitments and a place gets freed up for cheap. The people are usually just thankful they were able to still rent their place out on such short notice even if it is for less. With Craigslist, at the last second 2 years ago I ended up with a 3 bedroom place for what worked out to be $750 a week. Nothing fancy, but it beats $300 for a hotel each night. Before the economy tanked, the average person in Saratoga could pay 6-10 months of their mortgage by just renting out their home for 6 weeks. They probably will regulate out Craigslist somehow. So i had to go but another car for him too drive. I was happy because either one of them was not in very good shape. They were a 1996 Escort and a 1993 Ranger 4x4. I would say you should put a picture on with the ad.I know when I look at the ads I always look at the ones with pictures first. You can tell more about what you are looking at. I'd just give out your email or phone number and then screen the potential buyers that way, it would be hard to move all the furniture and they are not going to buy it without looking at it. If somebody sounds like a weirdo just tell them its sold......everybody who came to look at my girlfriends car was pretty sane, although you never know and I shared your concerns about giving out my address. Strangers are going to respond either way. One good thing about Craigslist is they create a blind e-mail address for you with your ad. You enter your real e-mail when you create the ad but the blind box is posted in your ad and forwards to you. But you get the best response by putting your phone number in. I have used the service about 5-6 times and have managed to sell the stuff within a week tops. This included a small breakfast table & 4 chairs, a sofa set, a projector, washing machine etc. (among others) You have to watch out for the responders who claim they are from out of town and want you to mail the stuff you are selling. Someone mentioned meeting them at the nearby coffee shop first, which isn't a bad idea, but I wonder if anyone has other thoughts on this. ive sold tons of stuff on craigslist. just email a couple times, then if you feel comfortable that they are legit, ask for a number and talk to them. ive never had a problem with anyone who turns out to be a legit response. just know that youll get a few responses in your email that will be spam/scams. but they wont get past an email or two. Thank you for pointing out the potential scams. Nothing is perfect and you have to be cautious anyway. One more thing to watch out for are people who call/write wanting you to hire them to "market" your item, or a consignment seller who wants you to use them This has happened to me before when selling cars, even theough Craigslist supposedly does not allow such solicitations. I bought a nice executive desk chair on Craig's list like that. The woman didn't want to give her address out and just met me in a mall parking garage halfway between both of our homes.
