Big Turk Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 The ESPN writer who mentioned him as "overrated" was wrong, but so is this. well, other than for the 3 years they mentioned(1998-2000), he was pretty much dead on... Moulds yards/catch declined every year from 2000 on, and he got way more balls thrown to him than the average receiver in the NFL did. His speed pretty much vanished and he became a glorified possession receiver who got a ton of balls thrown to him and got some first downs. Unfortunately during this time, he still thought he was a great #1 receiver, when in reality he was more like a #2 or #3 receiver. If Josh Reed got the same # of passes thrown to him as Moulds did during this time, he likely would post better numbers, because he catches everything in sight. In effect after 2000, Moulds became Josh Reed who didn't catch the ball nearly as well as Reed does, but got way more balls thrown to him, since he was still thought of as a #1 receiver. If Moulds caught the ball better, he likely would have had some 1400-1500 yard seasons in there...
