Jim in Anchorage Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Now I know some of the vets out there will tell me it was unrealistic[God bless you ] but the use of lighting and music is phenomenal. "The bird is the word" by Sam the sham and the Pharaoh's after a GI pops a cap on some VC? Geniuses. Stanley Kubrick,to me, is a lot more important than the God MJ seems to have become.
Steely Dan Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 IMO, it begins and ends with Apocalypse Now. JMO
damj Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Deerhunter IMO, it begins and ends with Apocalypse Now. All great movies. I can't speak for how accurate the 'nam portion of FMJ is, but the boot camp scenes are very realistic.
WVUFootball29 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 All great movies. I can't speak for how accurate the 'nam portion of FMJ is, but the boot camp scenes are very realistic. The bootcamp portion of the movie was really the only good part. If the second half of that movie lived up to the first, it would have been a much bigger hit than it was
TheBlackMamba Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 IMO it begins and ends with Saving Ryans' Privates...
Steely Dan Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 IMO it begins and ends with Saving Ryans' Privates... Umm, it's Nam movies. Not porno WWII films.
Nervous Guy Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Hamburger Hill deserves a mention as does We Were Soldiers.
BuffaloBill Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Anything with Lou Gossett Jr. For real? He has made some bad movies over the years.
Wooderson Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Full Metal Jacket, Kubrick was way ahead of his time and one of the greatest directors of all time. Platoon is also a great movie with an all-star cast, IMO. I haven't seen Apocalypse Now, but from what I hear it's one of the best.
Guffalo Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Deerhunter Platoon Full metal jacket Apocolypse now
Chef Jim Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 It's not the best as far as quality but being an old fart and a John Wayne fan it would have to be The Green Berets.

The Dean Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Deerhunter Platoon Full metal jacket Apocolypse now I'm not a real war movie fanatic, but those would be my picks. I'd also add the Vietnam part of Forrest Gump to the list.
plenzmd1 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Two that I like not mentioned yet The Boys in Company C. This movie really got me into reading more about the war We Were Soldiers.
TheBlackMamba Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 i think good morning vietnam, platoon and born on the 4th of july deserve some respect as well
