Glass To The Arson Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Could the Vikings’ decision to acquire quarterback Brett Favre mean that the team is for sale? At least one sports money expert thinks so. Mike Ozanian of Forbes.com believes that the arrival of Favre means that Zygi Wilf wants to unload the franchise... San Jose Bills Fan Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Excuse me if this has been mentioned in one of the other threads but an interesting part of this issue (selling NFL teams) is that apparently there are or will be a bunch of franchises changing hands in the next few years due to family ownership issues and stadium issues. PFT I think mentions as many as 7 teams changing hands in the near future. The implication (in concert with the bad economy) is that it will be a buyer's market and the cost of buying an NFL team might be relatively cheap. This is encouraging from the standpoint of keeping the Bills in WNY. The team may be more affordable for a white knight group to buy and there would be less pressure to move to a larger market to maximize revenues if the team was bought in a down cycle (cheaply).
PromoTheRobot Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 This writer makes some pretty lame assumptions here, that a player like Favre actually adds significant value to an NFL team. Favre will be lucky to last one season in Minny. How much value does that bring? PTR

If a white knight group came in and bought the Bills they probably could make a go of it in WNY. The first thing they probably would do would be to bring in a first class GM (no offense to Brandon who has done decently under the circumstances) and probably a new high profile HC. That would energize the fans and would probably be followed by a 20% increase of ticket prices right away. But with the new hope for the future the fans would probably still buy the tickets and also corp. sponsorships would skyrocket across the region including Ontario. There would be a feeling that this franchise was a winning proposition for the future. May even lead to fairer officiating against NE* because the refs would be influenced by the new energy of the franchise. The problem we have now is that other than ticket paying fans no one wants to make a big commitment to the Bills because they don't even know if the team will be here for long or what the new ownership will be like to deal with.

You forgot to mention... and build a world class, retractable roof stadium on the lake; revitalize the downtown; and make all our wildest dreams come true. Yes, if only a new ownership group could save us all....

billsfan89 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Its all speculation based off of nothing. The vikings are trying to get a new stadium and they draw fairly well. They will stay in Minnesota and the ownership (which just bought the team recently) has no real intent to move the team unless the deal for the new stadium falls through. Not a very well thought out article. Were the Jets trying to sell because they bought in Favre?

Except the Vikes are not some 3 bedroom rambler on a half-acre lot in Walla Walla with a new paint job and windows. Their attendance numbers are public knowledge. Anyone dropping $1B on anything (except maybe our government) would do their homework. Having Favre goosing your ticket sales for a season means nothing. PTR
Flbillsfan#1 Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Favre=SB? I must have slept through the parade for the Jets. PTR You are CRAZY if you think the Jets & Vikings are the same team. Aside from the FACT that Minn. is a MUCH BETTER team than NY, Favre had to learn a new offense with the Jets. The Vikings offense he could teach.

PTR perhaps the biggest thing Favre will do is guarantee sellouts and sell lots of jerseys... his play on the field as was seen with the Jets is highly questionable....

Aside from the FACT that Minn. is a MUCH BETTER team than NY, Favre had to learn a new offense with the Jets. The Vikings offense he could teach. I'm sure he could have taught the Green Bay offense he was in for many years, but that didn't stop him from having 4 or 5 crap years in a row before his last big season there...basically the guy has had 1 good year in the last 6, and his prospects for having another season like his 1 good one get smaller and smaller with each passing day he gets older, his reaction times get slower, and his physical abilities get weaker...
