eSJayDee
That was/is SOOO Effing AWESOME! I went out about 10:00pm when I read here that they were visible. I didn't see a thing. (My northern horizon is obstructed.) Went out again shortly b4 2am w/ the dog & again it didn't look like much. If it wasn't for the fact that the southern sky was so clear, I woulda just thought it was illuminated clouds (I live a few miles due south of the 'big' city of Albany). After a few minutes, they start to flare up. Waves of light. The beams become more intense. Mostly just a pale blue hue but there was a significant amount of red for a short period of time. It looked like there was something wrong w/ my eyes or something. If I've seen the Northern lights b4, it was never like this. I wish I knew what the horizon looked like, but I could see from maybe 20° azimuth (is that the right term?) or so & there was occasional stuff visible upto directly overhead.
