Steely Dan
Casino Royale is one of the best movies I've ever seen period. I like Casino Royale because it doesn't have the campy scenes like the Roger Moore movies. I like the Daniel Craig performance and the Timothy Dalton portrayals because they are closer to the James Bond of the books. Favorite Bond movie....No question about it...Goldfinger although both the newer ones with Daniel Craig were pretty good. Goldfinger is really great. On Her Majesty's Secret Service is pretty good too. It gets looked over a lot because George Lazenby was only Bond for one film.

UConn James
Looking back now, the Roger Moore offerings are terrible. From the writing to the directing to the acting they are dreck throughout. The Dalton films aren't especially good or especially bad. These were my contemporary Bond films --- I remember watching them at a various network's "____ Night at the Movies" on our old blue & green floral-theme sofa whose fabric was itchy wool, with some homemade Chex mix. But all that being so with the memories, I saw LTK recently was very unimpressed. As we get further away from him, I don't think the Brosnan run is going to be well viewed. They consist almost entirely as one long line of pu--y and sex jokes / one-liners. There's no real substance to them. The Connery Bonds, otoh, still stand on their own as very good movies with good story, if slightly campy acting... but with some great cinematography (see: the train scene in FRWL). The storyline with SPECTRE (which I believe they've resurrected with the current series) just seems to add something that the string of lone-wolf weirdo with a weird henchman take-over-the-world types seriously lacked. I haven't seen the latest, but "Casino Royale" was excellent. I credit much of its awesomeness to Paul Haggis. Just as with the new Batman series, it's finally being put right after a long time in the weeds. Favorite? "Goldfinger."
stuckincincy
I liked "From Russia with Love". KD in CA
From Russia With Love. No other Bond movie captured the cold war as well. Great plot, great bad guys (including Robert Shaw) fantastic beauty, and one of the all time great train sequences. Most other outstanding entries have already been mentioned, including all the other early Connery movies, OHMSS (Telly S was the best villain in the series), Octopussy, and Casino Royale. Agree with James that most of the Moore movies were weak. Hard to blame Moore though...many of those movies had ridiculously goofy/cheesy dialog and direction. They completely took the edge off the character. It's too bad because several of them had good story lines.

To everyone else (even Cheech and Chong have moved on, man!), the 70s are over, but Moore apparently prefers the cheese and camp. He did nothing for Bond. The one centered around New Orleans was a complete waste of film.

BillsWatch
Despite the popularity the Daniel Craig movies appear to me to be more "Punisher" movies than James Bond movies and I have read or listened to the books. Craig does not do suave very well but he does do mean very well. Of the modern movies "GoldenEye" is the best. "You only live twice' is the best of the Connery films. drinkTHEkoolaid
casino royale- my favorite goldeneye - my favorite Brosman, and 2nd favorite overall honorable mentions; from russia with love- great plot quantam of solace- very solid all around goldfinger- a classic my favorite connery bond role (i <3 pu55y galore) thunderball- also a great classic bond moonraker (yes it was cheesy but i liked it) random Bond thoughts; i think the living daylights had real potential but i didnt care for Dalton, he didnt do Bond well at all, to me this movie had a great plot/script but didn't amount to much and about the earlier mention of SPECTRE, i love the complex group of sneaky evil super genius villain organizations, i'm not a fan of the random rogue maniac. It will be interesting to see how Quantam plays out. The Pierce Brosman era started off great with goldeneye but went down hill quick, i think they made it way too far fetched and unrealistic i like some parts/scenes/scripts but overall it didnt really feel like Bond to me. but IMO Daniel Craig brought Bond back to where he should be. ajzepp
I've seen every Bond film, and Casino Royale was easily my favorite. Daniel Craig was a brilliant choice, and I'm thankful they got away from Brosnan, who I felt was awful. I have to admit that my next favorite Bond films were "Moonraker" and "For Your Eyes Only", not cause they were great films, but because they have a huge nostalgia factor for me. T.Dalton was very underrated as Bond, and I enjoyed his brief stint.

Dalton's Bond is closer to the books. The movies are a lot less campy crap too. Daniel Craig could turn out to be my favorite Bond. I haven't seen QOS yet but I thought he was great in Casino Royale. I'm sure a lot of you know these trivia pieces already but here are a couple of things I find interesting; These are in Cincy's Wiki link too. The name James Bond was taken from a coffee table book of ornithology written by an ornithologist James Bond. Fleming also wrote Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
