GaryPinC Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 So, Jim Kelly's suggested a short time ago to have the team move up to Niagara Falls. He also seems confident there's enough local resources to keep the Bills in WNY. Then you have this PR out of Dallas about the Bills thinking of doing something with a new stadium, which current management strongly denies. Certainly moving the Bills up there makes it closer for the Rochester/Syracuse fans and fans in the city of Toronto. But, in thinking about it more, look at the casinos, hotels, and restaurants there. These would all have to be at drooling on some level at the prospect of having 70,000+ fans flock to the area every weekend in a slower part of the year. They could offer weekend packages, shuttles from the border, etc. Also, it would seem to me that any global business company in Toronto would already entertain overseas clients at the Falls, considering it is a world-known natural wonder. Might be able to sell them some corporate suites at the stadium, also. Anybody know/have any thoughts on whether there are deep enough pockets in Niagara Falls to help with buying the team and moving them up there? Could the stadium actually provide enough financial incentive that potential deep pockets would actually want to cough up $$$$? Do Toronto businesses/corps have enough presence in Niagara Falls to help financially support the move (both before and after)? Certainly playing a game or two a year in TO would help this scenario. Anybody know or have thoughts on whether there's any reality to this entire scenario? I'm in Cleveland and have little idea about the actual amount of $$$ there and who controls it. TIA
rackemrack Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 niagara falls, NY is a sh!thole, i would rather see them move to downtown buffalo, maybe on the waterfront, or just stay put in OP. the ralph really is in a perfect location as it sits. the only benefit to moving would be closer to the falls, a natural wonder, or downtown to an area that could really use the income of a professional football team. but i see the teams denial of looking into a new stadium as completely truthfull. why would ralph want a new stadium?
/dev/null Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Could use the river to transport Ralph Wilson Stadium straight to Niagara Falls. Might not even have to dismantle and re-assemble the entire stadium
12Kachy Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Yeah could work. Alot of professional teams don't play in the city they are named for. SO they could eventually move and stick with Buffalo Bills. No one is calling the Washington Redskins they Landover Redskins or the NY Jets and Giants dont get called the New Jersey Jets / Giants.

Or the Orchard Park Bills, for that matter. Geez people, you all knew that OP was not in the city of Buffalo, right? Of course, back in 1972 members of the Erie County Legislature, noting the public help for the construction of the new Bills stadium, proposed "the Erie County Bills," a proposal that sounds as freshly stupid as it did the day it was made.

And Buffalo isnt a craphole? Its not about ralph wanting a new stadium...its about us...the fans deserving a new stadium and also maximing one of the greatest wonders in the world. Niagara falls with a premier stadium could be an amazing thing. The problem with all of WNY is no one ever thinks out of the box. And the ones that do get shot down. No one complains much about orchard park. But in reality, its a horrible place for a stadium. The only one positive is it great for tailgating, nothing more. Sorry, but i think looking into NF as a possible spot is a smart idea.

May Day 10 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 the idea of a stadium in Niagara Falls really doesnt make much sense to me. On gameday Sundays convenience isnt the biggest factor unless your talking about traffic (which would be ghastly in Niagara Falls/GI bridges). The stadium is fine where it is or it would be fine in downtown Buffalo. if your having 41 or 81 home dates a year, convenience is a huge factor. On Sundays, extra driving time isnt a deal breaker. I drive in from Philly and Monday after the game I see fans decked out in Bills stuff all the way down to Binghamton. If people want to go to the game, they will go.
a player to be named later Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I would even go as far as putting the stadium on goat island... The Buffalo/Niagara/Toronto Bills live from Goat Island, NY - Thompson's Water Seal Stadium.

evilbuffalobob Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Certainly moving the Bills up there makes it closer for the Rochester/Syracuse fans... Certainly NOT- get a map out pal. The previous idea tossed around to build a stadium at/around the Lancaster Raceway area makes it easier on Syr/Roch fans... not the Falls dude.

Unless the Bills can get a plan where you could see the Niagara (or at least feel its mists) Falls from this new statdium, building in NF does not make sense. Also, people who live in Buffalo would know better. Does Niagra get more lake effect snow than Buffalo ?
Dr. Trooth Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 niagara falls, NY is a sh!thole, Dude, what city in NY isn'y a sh!thole?

Also, people who live in Buffalo would know better. Does Niagra get more lake effect snow than Buffalo ? NF, USA would be no more of a bottleneck than the current situation in OP. I love this idea--it will not happen--but I love it. While NF is internationally known, very few people realize that it's just another suburb of Buffalo. It would really show our city well. While NF is a little dumpy, there are more hotels, restaurants, and things to do in NF than in OP. It would add about 15-20 minutes to the travel time from Syracuse or Rochester, but it would subtract the same amount of travel time for Canadian fans, and I'll bet the numbers are roughly equal, so that's a wash. From downtown Buffalo, travel times to NF and OP are pretty much equal: about 10-15 minutes, or about 30 with gameday traffic. Also, there is existing train service from Toronto, Rochester, Syracuse, and Buffalo. No need to build a new light rail.

Also, people who live in Buffalo would know better. Does Niagra get more lake effect snow than Buffalo ? It defintely could pose major traffic headaches. But thats where expanion/growth planners of a city have to come in. These are some of the major reasons that wny never has a solution to the hurdles that get in the way of a project. There is always too much red tape BS. One thing is the robert moses would have to become 3 lanes along with the 190 lewiston way. I feel that would defniitely have to be adressed. Shuttle services are an option from the Canadien side...and some kind of nice by pass system down by the rainbow mall...or whatever is called now. There is ways to make it work, we just need the right people to make a plan and stick to their convictions. I could care less what the Bills would be called. They could be the Buffalo Niagara Bills, or wny bills. Or any other sensible combo. Do you really think that Ravens fans care they arent called the colts? Do you think that Toronto fans would care what they are called. They just want to come, root the team on and have fun. Niagara Falls taps into the toronto market better than buffalo does. As long as we have a team, a nice stadium then thats all that matters.
