Steely Dan Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Once more Unless Ralph can gain from it with as little out of pocket $$ as possible he'll let the next owner deal with it. I think it will increase the value of the team a lot.
VJ91 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 http://www.wgr550.com/Report--Bills-thinki...w-digs-/4541751 This is the source This company could have received a call from the Bills before Ralph and Russ cut their deal with Toronto, to possibly explore adding more suites into the Ralph or something. Or, they could have made a call into the Bills and were told "something might be needed". A new stadium makes zero sense at this time.
SlamnSam Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Why should Ralph invest in something that is not going to give him a good return? Would you invest in something that would not make you a good return on your investment? I sure hope not genius. Do you think Jerry Jones built his palacial stadium to lose money? HELL NO!!! But any word about a potential new stadium for the Bills in the Buffalo area is great news even if it may be a pipe dream. Actually Jones put up a small fraction of the money the city of Arlington paid most of it. On top of that the seats have leasing requirements which means you put up 4K just to get the rights to a seat then you pay season ticket prices every year.
VOR Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 All this speculation from one throwaway line by a company obviously always looking for another contract? You've convicted Bills players with less.
Bflojohn Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Well, let me add a different slant to this story.... Suppose Mr. Ralph Wilson is actually trying to cement the legacy of the Buffalo Bills being in Buffalo, long term, after his passing?!?! The grand gesture of leaving this team right where it belongs is PROBABLY NOT lost on Mr. Wilson at all. If it is justified as the price of doing business in the National Football League, then so be it!! The mere notion that this is a grandstanding play to simply ship the franchise off to the highest bidder (Toronto or L.A.) is a possibility, albeit a remote one in my opinion! Actually, the N.F.L. would be hard pressed to move an existing franchise with this storied a history IF a new playpen is constructed. It makes perfect sense to me, in this context!
The_Philster Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 The Dallas paper and WGR are full of it (no big surprise with WGR) http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/693909.html
Mr. WEO Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Actually Jones put up a small fraction of the money the city of Arlington paid most of it. On top of that the seats have leasing requirements which means you put up 4K just to get the rights to a seat then you pay season ticket prices every year. Actually, the City of Arlington put up $325 million with tax increases, the NFL kicked in 150 million. Jones is on the hook for the rest of the total cost of over a billion $$$. Do the math--$600 million is not "a small fraction". Gee, leasing requirements for season tickets? That Jones is a monster for daring invent such a crazy concept! Sheesh. Anyway, 4000 for a seat license is peanuts---check out the prices for the new Giants/Jets stadium.
sven233 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 The Dallas paper and WGR are full of it (no big surprise with WGR)http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/693909.html Of course the Bills are going to deny it!!! Why would they do anything otherwise until plans are more finalized? It is no surprise the Bills are denying this. However, even with them not saying anything, usually when something like this comes out, there is at least SOMETHING to it. It may be no more than some initial conversations (with no immediate plans). The could be just doing some basic research. So it would be easy for the Bills to deny something like this because it may just be exploratory. But don't for 1 second think that just because the Bills deny something like this, that there is not at least something to it. What and how much they have talked about will probably not be known for a long time. But don't just blow it off because the Bills Front Office is. Somebody at least contacted them about something or else why would they just throw the Bills name out there like that.
Beerball Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 The Dallas paper and WGR are full of it (no big surprise with WGR)http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/693909.html Full of it? For what, reporting what the firm told them? That's what the paper did. WGR is guilty of reporting what was stated in the paper. Choose your words a bit more carefully.

Jones is at best on the hook for maybe several months of interest payments on the cost overruns. The advertisement, rent, luxury box, PSL, and ticket revenue will easily cover it (where are naming rights fees, though?). Erie County can't afford even a fraction of the $325M that Jones got from Arlington, and the G-3 fund is dead. And $4000 just for a PSL is a king's ransom in Buffalo. This isn't NYC, you know. A new stadium would be nice, but would strain an already-strained population.
downunderbill Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 maybe not a new stadium but an upgrade of the old stadium? hypatheticly, would anyone give up the weather advantage to play in a dome?
nucci Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 maybe not a new stadium but an upgrade of the old stadium? hypatheticly, would anyone give up the weather advantage to play in a dome? What weather advantage are you referring to? This is not the '90's anymore.
Just Jack Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 maybe not a new stadium but an upgrade of the old stadium? The Bills were talking about moving the press box to the corner, and making suites where it is now.
Buftex Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 The announcement that Mr Wilson has chosen Chris Berman as his HOF presenter, and now this "leak"/rumor got me thinking...could something be in the works for Ralph to sell the team now? It is just a fantasy, but when the Bills signed Terrell Owens, part of me thought it was, as much as anything, a desperate move by the owner, for some good PR, not only for the Bills, but for himself. As old as he is, I am sure he is aware that there is a large, vocal part of the Bills fan base that kind of resents him, particularly when the future existence of the Buffalo franchise seems kind of cloudy. So, my dream scenario has Berman, announcing, in front of huge contigent of very faithful Bills fans in Canton, that the Bills will be sold to, say, Jim Kelly's band of merry investors (for dreams sake) , or Tom Golisano, or, whoever...Ralph goes into the hall a true hero, and his place in Buffalo lore is completely sealed, with a lot less resentment...just a fantasy...
downunderbill Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 What weather advantage are you referring to? This is not the '90's anymore. ok then. should the bills ever be good enough again to use weather to our advantage.
spartacus Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 maybe not a new stadium but an upgrade of the old stadium? hypatheticly, would anyone give up the weather advantage to play in a dome? you must no be referring to the Dick that refuses to practice outdoors at any time of year?
VOR Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 BTW, this was from BillsDaily.com: Bills Deny Stadium Rumor: The Buffalo News reports the Bills have denied a rumor that they have inquired about a new stadium. They say they have not been in touch with any firms about creating a study or building a new stadium. They maintain they are very happy at Ralph Wilson Stadium and the current economic conditions make building a stadium cost prohibitive. So much for that rumor.
Guest three3 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Bills exploring building a new stadium in toronto
