Mark Vader
"Watership Down". One of my favorite books, and I mean no disrespect to the animated movie, which considering when it was made(1978), did a very good job in capturing the plight of the rabbits. It also does a great job in not just making the rabbits cutesy, the danger they go through and the fate that some end up with is genuinely frightening. Having said all that, I would love to see this movie remade, because it has so much more character detail that can be explored. Although the problem with that is you would be looking at an animated movie that would be over 2 hours long, and american audiences would not have the patience for that. Still, I would love to see it done. Also, since special effects have come a long way, how about a remake of "King Kong Vs. Godzilla"? That would be most awesome. And you would have the parents bringing their young in's because it's animated, and not knowing the story. "Mommy, why is that one rabbit killing the other rabbit?" I heard stories on another message board when Watchmen came out about parents doing that because it was "a superhero movie".
C.Biscuit97
The Stand. Great call and it makes me wonder why it hasn't. The book is amazing and the mini-series is so-so. They could get the director of 300/ Sin City and do wonders with that on the big screen.
KD in CA
Anything involving Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell should be remade without Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell in it. Fixed dirty dancing... Yeah, if they remade it as a blank screen for 90 minutes. I also loved reading WD and thought the movie was pretty well done.

Any number of producer/directors could improve greatly on the original film. I'd like to see Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) do it. I'd also like to see Swan Song by Robert R. McCammon made into a movie. Very similar to The Stand.

Not sure who directed 300, but it wasn't Rodriguez. I'd like to see War of the Worlds actually done well.
