VOR Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Brandon Marshall, who was arrested on March 1st of this year after an officer saw him and his fiancee "engaged in a fight, kicking and punching each other," won't be suspended by Sir Roger. Way to go Rog, you're as much of an embarrassment to the league as the "thugs" to which (you fancy that) you teach a lesson.
GOBILLS78 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Where did you get the info, VOR? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4225271
The Dean Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4225271 Thanks. That's pretty odd, I gotta say.
VOR Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4225271 Thanks. I should have linked the article in my original post.
VOR Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks. That's pretty odd, I gotta say. Not really, as it was totally expected. Goodell talks a good game, but in the end, he's a corporate lackey.
The Dean Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Not really, as it was totally expected. Goodell talks a good game, but in the end, he's a corporate lackey. I disagree. (I mean, he IS a corporate lackey (as are all modern sports commissioners) but he has done a better job with discipline than those before him. I think he is serious about the league's image. Just because we don't agree with some of his decisions, doesn't mean he is somehow biased, or not serious about this particular mission. None of us has all the facts he considered in this case, or in any other.) Also, I notice that both Marshall and his wife were arrested, and that all charges were dropped. Still given Marshall's past, I expected something. Judging by Marshall's comments, I suspect the next time something happens, he will be facing something pretty big.

Goodell has only done a better job with discipline because the NFLPA agreed to a personal conduct policy after getting that more-than-generous CBA (which coincided with Goodell taking over). And since the league has been humming along without him needing to do anything more make token appearances, it's become his personal crusade. As for the facts, if we're to believe that Goodell believed the police when they said they saw and smelled pot in Lynch's car, there's no reason to doubt that they saw Marshall physically abusing his fiancee, as the police report indicates. And as we've been told, the Commish can act outside the law, meaning that for a traffic ticket and a misdemeanor, a player can get suspended for 3 games. But repeatedly beat up women and you're good.

Didn't Lynch have a gun or am I confusing my criminals? That Marshall's fiancee was also arrested and the fact that all charges were dropped the next day tells me this was a pretty minor incident. 'beat up women' doesn't sound like the case here.
SKOOBY Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Roger has a meeting every year on how to jam the Bills and keep them from the playoffs. Music city call was to the commissioners office for guidance, we know how that turned out.

Are you saying he didn't physically assault his fiancee?
The Dean Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Why? Are you saying he didn't physically assault his fiancee? I think he's saying none of us knows the entire extent of what happened. Both were arrested and the charges were dropped. Women often drop these charges after they are abused. But surprise, women sometimes start the abuse. Perhaps it was discovered she started wailing on him, and he defended himself. I don't know, and none of us knows what info Goodell has.

Trust me Marshall makes Marshawn look like an altar boy if you compare their rap sheets.

And Marshall as we all know, has a history of domestic violence.

Trust me Marshall makes Marshawn look like an altar boy if you compare their rap sheets. I concur, and that's why I expected a suspension even though the charges were dropped, this time. I suspect there was something about this particular incident that made a suspension unwise.

Though something tells me it would be in-line with the BS explanation given to not suspending Wilfork.
FloridaSnow Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Below is an excerpt from the article: Marshall is not out of the woods yet, however. He is scheduled to stand trial in Atlanta next week for two counts of misdemeanor battery, charges that stem from a March 2008 domestic incident involving Watley. "The pending case will be subject to review when appropriate," Aiello told ESPN on Tuesday. "The notification [Marshall] received from our office applied only to the March 1st incident." Unless I'm reading this wrong, it seems like the other charges, if they stick, may result in a suspension.

Yeah, but he was just on OTL the other day and said he "Never laid a hand to Rasheeda Watley."
