On May 19, 2009, Systemax Inc. purchased the Circuit City brand and website. Systemax Inc. has been in business since 1949. Systemax Inc. is a leading multi-channel retailer of computers, electronics, and industrial products in North America and Europe.

Basically they are just hoping people continue using bookmarks and search engines which already had CircuitCity.com.

Why?

Either you started drinking quickly, never read OTW, have some odd mindset that thinks a company he cared about and worked for meant nothing, or you are being mean. In the unlikely case it was the second choice, he worked there and was devoted to the company.

they also own the tigerdirect and compusa names

I'm sure it has.

Systemax (parent company of Tiger Direct...NYSE: SYX) bought the CC name and is hoping it still has some brand equity with consumers. Seems like a safe bet, if they remain an online-only reseller.

i was questioning erynthered who said his company was in the process of liquidating stuff. I am fairly close to the situation still and all the buildings are cleared out and the skeleton crew that still lives on as Circuit City Stores, Inc, is in a much smaller location...not sure what his company is still liquidating.

and it would not surprise me to see a brick and mortar presence at some point down the road, i think you are right, CC still has a strong brand recognition and could rise again in a much smaller capacity...but who knows...it still kind of hurts to see it exist without me and the rest of my CC peeps

You're talking about the middle step. Old CC liquidated its stuff to a wholesale liquidator, who is now going through the regular retail channels, like Eryn's to sell the remaining stuff to Joe Public.

Systemax bought the names, trademarks, etc and has very little to do with your old company.

Just like don't be surprised to see PanAm Airlines flying sometime in the future.

maybe there is another step i am not aware of, but all the store and DC was liquidated and the stores subsequently closed once inventory, including fixtures, was depleted. I know the office stuff in our 3 buildings were also sold off to joe public...just not sure what else there is, I would imagine if we had stuff in the DC's we either shipped it to the stores or back to vendors

I suspect they're selling Tiger Direct inventory under the CC name.

That's what I was thinking. Looked at the CC website last night and it looked like they combined the old CC website with some Tiger Direct styling. Probably trying to pull the mainstream audience to Tiger Direct products.

Similar to what Tiger Direct did with CompUSA (tho I think they also acquired the few remaining CompUSA stores)
