Dog munches down on the cat who munches down on the mouse.

Its a dog eat dog world we live in sometimes.

Is it a dog raises dogs/cats/etc to torture, and have fight one another, for their amusement world?

Cats may toy with their food before they eat it, but I have yet to see one raise mice, torture them, and then watch while the mice fight to the death, for other cats' amusement.

A dog is a special animal, there's no denying that, a dog will do anything a man asks him to do. A dog will die protecting his masters without thinking twice. A dog can be a part of a family and loved just as much by children and adults as you would love a human. When you lose a dog it hurts, just like a loved one. It doesn't surprise me folks are so up in arms for the sake and protection of what is much more then just a dog.

My only real argument concerning Michael Vick is that he has paid his dept to society and deserves another chance.

Fighting to the death is very popular in other countries, Bull fighting comes to mind. So in Spain for instance we have thousands and thousands of onlookers cheering on what is in essence, a Bull getting stabbed to death, and its not even a fair fight.

Human beings, in a fairly civilized country, wow, imagine that

Good point...perhaps you should head over to the African savannah and get all of the zebra and gazelle who are hunted by lions and cheetahs to sign release waivers before they are allowed to be attacked...

:D

Are the zebras and gazelles penned in so they don't have a chance to escape the lions and cheetahs?

The salmon who swim upstream to get back to their birthplace to spawn are forced by their instinct to basically become easy target for hungry bears and birds of prey. So in effect, YES those fish are penned in because they have no free will to do anything but what their instincts tell them to do...

And this relates to a human being dropping a dog into a fighting ring how, exactly?

matter puts forth a very compelling argument, I just haven't quite figured out what it is yet. :D

Give them time. They are self centered vicious creatures. Oh and I have had several over my lifetime (easier to care for than dogs and great pets). I just know them. :D

BTW, did you know that associating with known gamblers can trigger a lifetime ban under the league's Personal Conduct Policy?

So what happens if an NFL player walks into a casino in Vegas or Atlantic City? Or a horse racing track in NY or KY? or a dog racing track or Jai-Alai fronton in Miami? or (horror of horrors!!!) a church bingo hall? All of these places are full of gamblers. I can see it now "I was banned from the NFL for going to a church function, I never should have said hi to grandma in there"

Don't cats torture their pray before they kill it by allowing the mouse to run away, then pounce on it again, then allow it to escape again before killing it? I think you should start a petition to ban cats as well because they systematically torture their prey as well...

DOWN WITH CATS!!!

Well said. What is the use of punishment if the punished is never allowed to prove they have been rehabilitated by the experience?

They also have the running of the bulls in Pamplona proving that turn about is fair play. Now that's civilization.

There are a lot of weird, weird opinions in this thread. I think everyone can agree that Vick's actions were despicable, deserved jail-time, and his return to the NFL should not be an absolute guarentee. However, people want to kill him like one poster alluded too?? Are you !@#$ing kidding me?? Any idiot that would go that far suddenly becomes 100X the moron Mike Vick is. After all, the difference between human life and animal life is astronomical - that point isn't really up for debate, is it? I love dogs in a big way, but can we please stop acting like he was a S.S. guard in a concentration camp?

Funny, I found the opinions just as irrational but for the other reason. A lot of 'they were just dogs, so what's the big deal?' type comments. Torturing dogs for sport? Really? How anyone could blow that off as no big deal says a lot about that person's character.

I'm not a 'dog person' by any means, but I'd rank most dogs a lot higher than Vick on my list of things that contribute to this world.

Excellent point. I would be completely in favor of letting Vick fight one of his trained pit bulls to the death. If he wins, he can come back to the NFL immediatley.

rehabbed into society is fine (although he got a slap on the wrist...hardly punished)...but allowed to make millions of dollars for playing a game? Sorry...I don't think convicted criminals should get that kind of privilege. And that's another thing...to allow him back into the NFL would be a serious black mark against Goodell's whole goal of cleaning up the league. It'd be hard to take him seriously as a law-and-order type of commissioner if he reinstates a convicted felon.

Whether you think it was a serious crime or not, the law is the law. He's a convicted felon...there's no way around that.

Do I really need to explain the difference between legal and illegal gambling?

Really?

Paragraph 15 of the standard NFL player contract:

INTEGRITY OF GAME. Player recognizes the detriment to the League and professional football that would result from impairment of public confidence in the honest and orderly conduct of NFL games or the integrity and good character of NFL players. Player therefore acknowledges his awareness that if he accepts a bribe or agrees to throw or fix an NFL game; fails to promptly report a bribe offer or an attempt to throw or fix an NFL game; bets on an NFL game; knowingly associates with gambling or gambling activity; uses or provides other players with stimulants or other drugs for the purpose of attempting to enhance on-field performance; or is guilty of any other form of conduct reasonably judged by the League Commissioner to be detrimental to the League or professional football, the Commissioner will have the right, but only after giving Player the opportunity for a hearing at which he may be represented by counsel of his choice, to fine Player a reasonable amount; to suspend Player for a period certain or indefinitely; and/or to terminate this contract.

And after reading some of the opinions expressed in this thread, I'm honestly beginning to wonder if I haven't overstayed my welcome on TBD.
