Buftex Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qw5eTaGSKPc Not exactly "haunting" per se, but delightfully creepy. You want "delightfully creepy" check out this old country song by the cult figure, Eddie Noack. Elvis Costello did a pretty poor version of this on "Almost Blue", but the original just embodies creepiness... Another sort of haunting one, from Gram Parsons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veArVcmEn58
The Dean Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEa4qi6cYOQ If you have trouble hearing that, here's a louder take: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mo7p7ictF8...feature=related
Steely Dan Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I've always found really haunting. It's almost too creepy.
GOBILLS78 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I don't think you can beat Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt". But I have two that might be ranked #2 and #3:1. Jeff Buckley covering Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen which I heard for the first time less than a year before he drowned 2. For Squirrels - Mighty KC which was released a couple months after the lead singer and bassist died in a car accident I'm sure someone can nominate something by Elliott Smith Awesome. Glad to know somebody else loves this song.
GOBILLS78 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Sorry, this is haunting. No reason to show everybody your homepage...
Steely Dan Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 No reason to show everybody your homepage... You have to admit it is haunting.
Stussy109 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 We've had several of these in recent weeks, and I thought I'd bring a new one to the table. My pick...it was within a year of the end of this legend's life. And it was first recorded by an industrial rock band. Every time I hear it, I get tears in my eyes. Quality song, have always liked both versions upon heir initial release. The lyrics in this song, remind me of many of the alice in chains songs regarding addiction and depression.
Pete Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Blind Willie Johnson- Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNj2BXW852g
Bullpen Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I've always found really haunting. It's almost too creepy. Give yourself a punch!
May Day 10 Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xHl-P_arVA and the original http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRtd9TFfScU
stuckincincy Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 I'll toss in Sammy Davis Jr., performing "Mr. Bojangles"... Here's Mr. Bojangles himself - Bill Robinson, with his life-long pal, Shirley Temple: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjCFYpWDmfM...PL&index=16
Delete This Account Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 What truly made Mr. Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" haunting was the accompanying video, crooked wrinkled fingers intermixed with shots of Johnny and June, young and old. His career, legacy and reputation as a true rocker would not have been complete without this song. Next up for me is The Replacements' "Here Comes A Regular." jw
Buftex Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 A song that will haunt everybody on this board.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnUO8spvTw0
Steely Dan Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Give yourself a punch! No way! A pat on the back is far more deserved.
Captain Quint Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Pool Shark (acoustic version), Sublime Thats the first song that I thought of, too. Any live version of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQvWrMxgqYw
Heels20X6 Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Gary Jules does an incredible cover of 'Mad World' by Tears for Fears.... It sends chills down my spine. Too bad Adam Lambert had to ruin it on American Idol... It was used amazingly in the Gears of Wars commercial.

But what kinda lyrics are those?? I don't get the point. After one murder i think we get the point. creepy.
Steely Dan Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Almost anything off the "Final Cut" by Pink Floyd is haunting.
