TheBlackMamba Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa gave it everything he had, but he wasn't big or sturdy enough to be strong against the run, and new head coach Steve Spagnuolo wants bigger LBs. Now that the Rams have released Tinoisamoa, my only concern is the team's depth at the position, but the coaches like what they see in Larry Grant, the young LB signed off San Francisco's practice squad last season.-- St. Louis Post-Dispatch
billybob Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Buffalo's defense is about gang tackling - agree or disagree that's what they say so they can go with smaller LBs as long as he gets to the ball carrier in a hurry
Fewell733 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I always kind of question comments like that when the guy leads your team in tackles. No one on their roster tackled the runner more than he did, regardless of what the number is when he steps on a scale.
SuperBills12 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Hmm...makes you wonder though how many tackles he made after the runner gained yards downfield. The total tackles stat can be a little misleading

Yeah, but Fletcher did the same thing (led team in tackles) - the problem was, it was always 5-10 yards down the field. The item that amazed me was that it looks like the Rams are replacing him with a LB signed off someone else's practice squad? Or is that just a backup? Something just doesn't add up...
VOR Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 They like what they've seen of Larry Grant...in OTA's? And he's 6'1" and 235#.
WeAreMarshawn23 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I would take Flecther hear in a heartbeat again if it means that Ellison will not start.
TheBlackMamba Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 the thing that gets me is that spagnuolo just won a super bowl with the giants 2 years ago and is now the HC of the rams. im not sayin PT cant play because it may be that he doesnt fit their new defensive scheme but i dont know about any of you but i am a bit sick of signing everyone elses outcasts. you dont see the steelers, pats or ravens signing everyones elses released players. you see them drafting impact LB's...

BillsFan74 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I would rather have Brooks if we are going to sign a veteran LB.
silvermike Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Yeah, but Fletcher's excess of downfield tackles was a sign of crummy line play.

And they are right, Pisa is not big and strong enough for SAM LB. The rams tried him out there is mini-camp this past month and concluded he could not play strong side so they cut him. I was under the impression he would play weak side for the Bills over keith Ellison, which would be a huge upgrade in my opinion. Besides this guy has led the rams in tackles like 5 of the past 6 years. SIGN HIM BUFFALO

toddgurley Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I would rather have Brooks if we are going to sign a veteran LB. Brooks is about to retire, or should soon-lol. He is like 32 years old. Pisa is 27- Its a no brainer who to sign between the 2
TheBlackMamba Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 they sign released players as well. i'm sure they do...but they dont rely on released players from a 3-13 to come in an make an impact in their starting lineup. they draft players for that.

Hey buddy check your info, because the Pats are also interested in Pisa. SO TRY THAT ONE AGAIN? So if the pats want him, maybe he can play, huh?

You mean aging, over-the-hill players who want that one Super Bowl ring don't join the Pats? Am I imagining what happened to guys like Fred Taylor, Antowain Smith, Sammy Morris, Junior Seau, etc etc etc...

The Rams tried to play a 220 pound athlete at strong side backer in a 4-3 defense. The guy is a natural weak side backer in a cover 2, 4-3 defense. So this guy busts his ass for the team, makes 135 total tackles (solo and assisted) in 2008 and then a statement comes out saying he can't play the run well. Garbage! Mitchell plays the strong side backer in Buffalo over the tight end. The Bills need a speedy weak side backer.....this is a perfect match. The guy is an undersized tackling machine. You need take the "defensive system" into account, which actually requires taking the time to do real research!
SouthGeorgiaBillsFan Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Hmm...makes you wonder though how many tackles he made after the runner gained yards downfield. The total tackles stat can be a little misleading I played MLB in high school, and I can tell you from personal experience that typically in games where I was making 20+ tackles we were getting beaten badly. The reason for this is because I was making tackles down field that should have been made by other positions closer to the line of scrimmage. His number of tackles reflects only that he played for a mediocre defense that wasn't making plays, not that he was a great player himself. The more telling statistic would be how many first hits did he have where he didn't make the tackle? That's the number I'd like to hear.
VOR Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 i'm sure they do...but they dont rely on released players from a 3-13 to come in an make an impact in their starting lineup. they draft players for that. True. They sign castoffs from 0-16 teams (Bodden) to make an impact.
