Wait, I'm not sure if you were paraphrasing there but not being banned and not causing a positive test are two completely different things.

If you test positive, then it was a banned substance. If you are taking a banned substance, then you will test positive. I think it is one in the same.

Because Manny supposedly asked the doctor if this complied within baseball's strict banned substance list and the doctor assured him that there was nothing that would cause a positive testing.

A lot of these players aren't aware of what is contained in a lot of things they consume, whether it be supplements or medications and they rely on people around them to determine what they are taking is legitimate.

But why would Manny even ask a personal doctor? Why wouldn't he ask his agent, or MLB, or the players union?

Wow! That is huge. I bet you Big Papi is on them too.

No single player in this league over the last 15+ years deserves the benefit of doubt. Unless proven otherwise, they were all using.

Don't ask me...Ask Manny!

This is why he needs to produce the doctor and the medication that he was taking.

Per ESPN

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Manny Ramirez has been suspended for 50 games for violating its drug policy.

The commissioner's office didn't announce the specific violation by Ramirez, but in a statement Thursday provided by Major League Baseball, Ramirez attributed the violation to medication he had been prescribed by a doctor.

"Recently I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said. "Unfortunately, the medication was banned under our drug policy. Under the policy that mistake is now my responsibility. I have been advised not to say anything more for now.

"I do want to say one other thing; I've taken and passed about 15 drug tests over the past five seasons. I want to apologize to [Dodgers owner Frank] McCourt, Mrs. McCourt, [manager Joe] Torre, my teammates, the Dodger organization, and to the Dodger fans. LA is a special place to me and I know everybody is disappointed. So am I. I'm sorry about this whole situation."

After consultation with the Players' Association and his personal representatives, Ramirez waived his right to challenge the suspension. He will lose about one-third of his $25 million salary.

I think if it were a team doctor then I'd expect him to know, but according to Manny it was a personal doctor for a personal illness. Maybe I'm wrong, but I wouldn't expect the local pediatrician to know what is banned in MLB.

You can test positive for all sorts of things. What they're looking for is are you tesing positive for anything that is banned. And looking at what you said the doctor told him that you will not test positive with this supplement. Manny's next question should have been "I don't care if it shows up or not, is it legal?"

Some type of Viagra drug?

EDIT: The drug is HCG. Dead to rights, steroids. HCG is known for being the hormone detected by home pregnancy tests. In men, it is used to treat hypogonadism and infertility because it causes you to produce testosterone, which is necessary for sperm production. HCG is unequivocally used to quickly boost your natural levels back to normal after anabolics deplete them on a typical cycle.

Come on, man....they've been beaten over the head for YEARS now that you go to the TEAM DOCTOR. This whole idea of "my doctor gave it to me and I didn't know what it was" is nothing more than a full-fledged admission that you were trying to get away with something. Baseball is a joke.

If Big Papi is on them they are not helping him hit.

This season he has ZERO home runs and is batting in the .220's.

My guess is he was on the juice and is now off.

Because he is off them now... I never called him stupid, he can smell the hounds when they come a trackin'!

:P

Does that mean Manny's hormones will drop drasically in about 16 weeks? Will we be able to tell if Manny is a boy or girl? Oh, wait... I think that is hCG... the same thing? :P
