mrags Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 No freeman was an above average receiver with one great and one very good year but that was a product of the qb maximizing his skill set and the situation he was in. Irving had over six 1000 yard seasons in a row. He also had two more one thousand yard season toward the end of his carer. Chmura had two good seasons and Bubba Franks had only one season where he caught more than 400 yards he was just a really good blocking tightend. So for two years Farve had a good wide out and a good tight end but Aikman had all those weapons throughout his carer. Farve never had the level of talent Aikman did. Green Bay Freeman had 3 seasons of over 1000yrds. And another 3 over 800yrds. 96' 56rec, 933yrds, 9td's 97' 81rec, 1243yrds, 12td's 98' 84rec, 1424yrds, 14td's 99' 74rec, 1074yrds, 6td'd 00' 62rec, 912yrds, 9td's 01' 52rec, 818yrds, 6td's career-477rec, 7251yrds, 61td's Driver 02' 70rec, 1064yrds, 9td's 04' 84rec, 1208yrds, 9td's 05' 86rec, 1221yrds, 5td's 06' 92rec, 1295yrds, 8td's 07' 82rec, 1048yrds, 2td's career- 577rec, 7989yrds, 85td's Sharpe 92' 108rec, 1461yrds, 13td's 93' 112rec, 1274yrds, 11td's 94' 94rec, 1119yrds, 18td's I wont add in career stats with Sharpe because he played with Magic for a few years before Favre Brooks 95' 102rec, 1497yrds, 13td's 97' 60rec, 1010yrds, 7td's Schroeder 99' 74rec, 1051yrds, 5td's 00' 65rec, 999yrds, 4td's 01' 53rec, 918yrds, 9td's Dorsey Levens wasnt great at rushing, but he excelled at receiving the ball out of the backfield 95' 48rec, 434yrds, 4td's 97' 53rec, 370yrds, 5td's 99' 71rec, 573yrds, 1td Mark Chmura had 6, 4, and 7 td's Bubba Franks had 9, 7, 4, 7 td's Dallas Irvin had 7 1000yrd seasons, and one more in the 900's 750rec, 11904yrds, 65td's in his career Harper had zero 1000yrd seasons, and only 1 over 800yrds 191rec, 3473yrds, 21td's Novacek had 5 seasons over 500yrds receiving. 422rec, 4630 yrds, 30td's 18 out of the top 25 receiving seasons came by WR's that Favre threw passes to while only 9 out of the top 25 came Aikmans way. I think its obvious that Favre had better receivers during his career. Team, maybe not, but WR's dont even come close. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/team...n-receiving.htm http://www.pro-football-reference.com/team...n-receiving.htm Thanks for making me take time out of my day to prove you wrong.

Did you ever think that maybe Favre made these players better? Favre only had Sharpe for one year during his prime. And Bubba Franks was never a good reciver and TD's for a tightend are like RBI's very circumstantial. Brooks and Freeman had no good years without Favre. Even when Freeman was on the Eagles and had Mcnabb to throw him the ball all he had was one decent year where he only got around 600 yards. When Brooks left for Denver he sucked and he was only thirty. When Freeman was in Philly he was thirty and their top receiver and all he had was one average season. As far as Driver he was a good target outside of his prime but who knows if Aikman hung around longer they might have given him more weapons so you have to look at the sample size of Aikman being smaller. And Novaceck was still better than Chumra and Franks. Now to be fair I don't know what Irvin would be like without Aikman since he never played without him during his prime but I think he would be better than Freeman and Brooks who never did much without Favre.

Im not here to get into an arguement over Aikman vs Farve. Im just proving my point that Aikman didnt have better weapons. Irvin was his best WR and only had 65td's in his career. At the same time Driver had 85 and Freeman had 61. You made it clear that you thought Aikman had better weapons and I proved that he didnt. Other than Michael Irvin, his best WR through out those years that you claim were so amazing he had Alvin Harper who failed to up up more than 1000yrds. If you combined all of the WRs on Green Bay you would see that Farve had multiple 1000yrd double digit td guys almost year after year. And Farve had Sharpe for 3 years. 92' 108rec, 1461yrds, 13td's 93' 112rec, 1274yrds, 11td's 94' 94rec, 1119yrds, 18td's All im saying is that maybe we should not stroke Brett's epeen so much. The guy only won 1 SB. He doesnt deserve to be labelled as the best of all time just because he played more than anyone esle. The guy had 18 chances to win the big one and only did it once. Aikman, Montana, Bradshaw, Brady, Elway all have more SB wins and have done it in less years. Aikman is one of very few that have 3 SB rings as a starting QB. It should count for something.
BuffaloBaumer Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Looks like if Favres X Rays come back and things look good, he will be a Viking....Love It! http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4152783

If you could put Irvin and Novacek on the Packers during thier 1994-1998 run when favre was at his best they put up sick numbers and if you put Brooks Freeman Schroder and Chumra on the Cowboys they are just average and they have shown that by how they did nothing without Favre during their carers. As for Harper if he was on those Green Bay teams than I think he puts up good numbers as well maybe a few years like Freeman and Brooks had. As for Sharpe the first two years he was with Favre was still learning the position so yeah he had him but only one year at his peak. As for Driver the only reason I discount him as talent Favre had was because Driver came after the 1990's run so he is more of a product of Favre hanging around and Green Bay restocking the talent around him because he hung around for so long. Just saying that adding in Driver is a comparison from a different era is all. Aikman had better talent year in and year out. I never said that Favre is the best of all time just that he is in the lower top ten all time and Aikman is somewhere in the top 20 all time. Aikman's rings do count they put him somewhere in the top 20 thats pretty good in my book to be regarded as one of the top twenty QB's all time.
