Mark Vader Posted May 2, 2009 Author Posted May 2, 2009 No, no, no....they didn't need a new actor to revive KIRK, they needed to revive the FRANCHISE, cause Picard and his monkey crew couldn't hold anyone's interest! LONG LIVE KIRK!!! Actually, Star Trek with a monkey crew sounds BRILLIANT!
The Dean Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 Actually, Star Trek with a monkey crew sounds BRILLIANT! Best I could do on short notice

GoodBye Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I heard that Shatner was ticked that they didn't even ask him to make a cameo in the new movie. What's up with that??

Fan in Chicago Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Saw Star Trek and Angels & Demons this weekend: Star Trek: I am not a trekkie but a fan of the original series. Post-Cloverfield I was very skeptical of any JJ Abrams movie so went in expecting little. I was far and away impressed with this movie. Well handled story-line, good acting and special effects. In short, the movie did everything well - thrilled, entertained and kept me engaged. A&D: Very disappointing movie. Ron Howard attempts to answer critics of The Da Vinci Code by simplifying the plot and adding more action. What results, however, is a movie with a lot of plot holes. In addition, the movie is lifeless, un-engaging and also devoid of any fun. It just feels like a big chase with people running around trying to do something. The actors also turn in some of their most emotionless performances. Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor are way better than this. While Da Vinci Code did not make for a good movie-going experience, at least it stayed true to the source material and for that it was mildly engaging. in A&D, the soul is missing. I recommend giving it a pass.
Buftex Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I heard that Shatner was ticked that they didn't even ask him to make a cameo in the new movie. What's up with that?? Apparently, they did offer Shatner a cameo (via a video message that would be part of the story), but he was insulted, and declined. He was insulted, particularly in light of all the screen time Nimoy got in the new film....

I recommend giving it a pass. I thought Star Trek was fantastic. J.J. Abrams has given this franchise the reboot it needed. Also, just to curb your skepticism, Abrams was a producer of Cloverfield, he did'nt direct it. I completely disagree with you on Angels & Demons. I thought it was very entertaining and thrilling. True, Hanks & McGregor have done better, but I thought the plot was a good one. Granted the story is contrived, but so was Da Vinci Code. At least with A&D I was intrigued and watching intently, with DVC I was trying to stay awake.
