ROSTER IMPROVED GREATLY

Recommended Posts

Player Developement, Free Agency, and the NFL draft contributed for a lot a reasons to be optimistic if you are a Bills FAN. 2009 has been possibly the biggest year for Roster Turnover in a decade. Biggest reasons for optimism are the core is here and in tact. Here is a look at the new line:

C- Hangartner - http://www.cnycentral.com/sports/sports_story.aspx?id=267233

LG- Wood - http://www.buffalobills.com/media-lounge/v...47-6006b4377184

RG- Levitre - http://www.buffalobills.com/media-lounge/v...d7-8c5a53c37689

LT- Walker - Played well last season and has improved every year in the NFL, Bell will eventually replace him

RT- Butler - Best lineman on team. Gonna lock down the right side for next 10 years...

Reserves- Bell, Chambers, McKinney

Overall analysis : Physical, Big, strong, fast, smart, blue collar, finishes blocks, and deep. Should see holes big enough Ralph Wilson could run for 100. The one thing that sticks out to me is that there is no EGO in our line. This should be a very tight knit group.

QB- Trent - I feel like we have a Great QB, we'll see. Make or Break type of season for him and Dick

QB- Fitzpatrick - Intelligence is not an issue with Ryan. He is servicable, more than I can say about JP

Overall analysis : Should be good enough to win every week. Could see Pro Bowl from Trent if healthy all season..

RB- Lynch - BEASTMODE can catch too!

RB- Jackson - He is a role player. Very good at everything not elite at anything. Perfect for Everything he is asked to do.

RB- Rhoades - Should be Marshawn's primary backup with Jackson keeping his role. Great addition to every aspect of the offense. Can power run, cut, catch, and block.

Overall Analysis : One of the best units in the NFL hands down

WR- Evans - We are about to find out if every excuse we make for LEE is true. I believe he breaks out across from TO.

WR- TO - ENOUGH SAID!

WR- Reed - very underrated, Josh will be put in his best position and his numbers should actually improve. Will help the running game in 3 wr sets. He is consistant..

WR- Hardy - Red Zone Target will have a clear cut role this year. SEE TO? COPY TO! hopefully developes into the next great tall WR in year 3, perfect year for him to absorb and come in to spell owens...

WR- Johnson - Jury is still out but he possesses everything it takes to physically dominate. Has perfect size

WR- Parrish - Return specialist, at best after the ball is in his hands. Shaky hands

TE - Nelson - http://www.buffalobills.com/news/article-1...55-d637a04814b2

Overall analysis : Top 5 WR core in NFL, the only question is can trent deliver?

I am really excited for a realistic chance of the playoffs... 11-5 is my projection

With the NFL ST changes about the "wedge (no more than 2 now), will they maintain their favorable positions to begin drives?

I saw that a former head coach possibly Gruden stated that a good return man could potentially score 10 td this year... There is more to that rule somehow... Any clues?

I'm not sure either what that rule's gonna do for special teams.. appears the Bears aren't worried about it: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/1689

The NFL’s new rule outlawing blocking wedges on kickoff returns shouldn’t have an affect on the Bears’ Danieal Manning, who led the league with a 29.7-yard average last season, according to special teams coordinator Dave Toub.

"Some teams run a zone-wedge scheme and some teams run a man scheme, and we're a man scheme," Toub said on the team’s web site. "We don't hold hands or anything like that to form a wedge. We really don't form a tight wedge like some teams do, so it shouldn't really affect us."

Does anyone know what kind of scheme ours is?

I've always loved the comments, "Pencil him in for the next 10 years". Very few players stay that long with one team anymore.

I think it's because while you cannot have a group of three, you can have two groups of two players. As long as they aren't within whatever the specified yardage of each other, you can use them as two separate walls. I think that will decrease the injuries but increase the usage of more agile guys back there, allowing the returner more "pockets" to run behind if you will.

Sorry, but you're overlooking one HUGE important factor...the head coach. He's the proverbial dragging anchor of the Bills team for this otherwise very promising group of young talented players. He could not even coach them a winning season with the easiest schedule in recent memory, and looking at this years schedule it's easy to see a 5 or 6 win season dead ahead mainly because of Dick Jauron. Young players, even talented ones, can't overcome bad coaching against the good teams. I see 2010 as the season when we return to the playoffs after hiring a REAL head coach.

Amen bro. Snert & Fewell aren't real high on my list, either. But at least they don't bring the consistent 7-9 track record that Dickie the J drags around. Not yet.........

I think you are going to be disappointed if you think the Bills are gong to bring in a Cowher or Shanahan (for example) and Ralph is still around next year. I love the guy but he has never shelled out the big jing for a top tier HC.

The question marks for me are Coaching & QB. Trent- A Great QB? I would be HAPPY to see GOOD. If Trent goes down for ANY length of time the Bills are in TROUBLE. Fitzpatrick- Servicable? He did NOT look servicable last year leading the Bengals to a 4-12 record. I REALLY do not understand this signing. WORST MOVE by the Bills this offseason.

I wouldn't be surprised that if one of those big coaching names thinks the Bills are on the verge of a run that they might come here for a shade less than top dollar. However, this team's salary is so low that the Bills shouldn't skimp on the next head coach and should pay the new guy something in the range of 5 million a year. This hiring any old cheap coach, be it a newbie or retread, has cost us a decade of futility already and the Bills fans deserve nothing but a guy who has actually been there and done that. If none of them want the job, then they need to get a guy who's regarded as an up and coming coach who's virtually a can't miss. If they don't want it then I'll take anyone not named Dick Jauron.

I share your optimism, Dan. I like almost all of the offseason moves so far (would have liked to find a way to keep Peters, but it was a tough situation for both sides after 2 years of fighting). I think that our receiving corp, including the RB's, is top notch this year with the addition of Owens & Nelson. I'm excited to see what Maybin can bring to the table and what Schobel has left in his tank, too. I think that we've added more talent, and dropped some dead weight in guys like Fowler, Dockery, & Royal. I also can't wait to see what sort of progression guys like McKelvin, Poz, & Whitner make this year.

I worry most about the coaching (can we get the most out of this group of players), second about the Trent coming through, and third about our O Line congealing early on in the year. I would still like to see us get an experienced LB before camp, too.

not to go way off the original topic, but it amazes me that the NFL would ask their crappy part-time officials who suck on a regular basis to now also decide, at top speed, while looking for holding and clipping and various other felonies on a kick return, whether or not these pairs of blockers were or were not within a specified yardage of each other. That's just asking for trouble.

I disagree very strongly. I think that Jauron is an amazing man and he is a top 5 coach in the NFL. He will get his due. Amongst his peers he is one of the most highly respected men in the game. If you, or I could be half the man that he is you could call yourself successful. He is accountable for everything he has ever done bad or good. He is honest, smart, trustworthy, and is very organized. Not many head coaches call plays on either side of the ball. I think you are hating on the wrong guys if you want to hate the offense or the defense. Dick allows his coaches to coach. The head coach is a motivator, and organizer. He needs to draw respect from his players and his peers. Dick Jauron is everything I ever want from my head coach. Hopefully, our coordinators improve. Vastly
