Leonidas Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'm not lazy, just incompetent. I just Googled "Levi Jones Draft Status" and got 7,000,000 entries covering everything from offensive tackles to denim jeans in the military. When was this guy drafted, and where was he slotted? As I recall, he was all-that-and-a-bag-of-chips at the time, right? Seriously? MISSION FAIL Levi Jones was the 10th overall pick in the '02 draft. He was considered a definite reach that day, considered to be a serious drop off after Williams and McKinnie. But he proved he was just as good as McKinnie, and obviously better than Williams. He's had a solid career with Cincy, but the injury bug has caught up to him as of late.
apuszczalowski Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I'd find it hard to believe that the Bills plan was to wait until the Bengals cut Jones, and then sign him. If the Bengals do cut him, for sure we should sign him because we're now desparate. I like the Bills draft, but I can't help but think it was a failure because we did not address our Offensive Tackle need. The already have Walker or chambers to fill the tackle spots on the line, so OT isn't a huge need, Guard and depth at C (since they are high on Hangartner as the centre) were bigger needs

He is better then any offensive lineman we have and if added would be a huge addition.
Fingon Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Holy sh--, i got this guy confused with Levi Brown.... hahaha

I just couldn't remember how stale the chips were. Same draft as Williams? That's probably when I was wishing we'd drafted him. For good reason. Cincy got more miles out of him than we got out of Williams. Wouldn't that be something? It would be worth taking a shot at him for a couple of years. Hope the injuries aren't too serious, like musculoskeletal (ligamenture) stuff. That has a way of nagging for.....decades.
Williamsville Bills Fan Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 6. The Buffalo Bills didn't address their need for a tackle after trading left tackle Jason Peters to Philadelphia. This makes you wonder whether the Bills are waiting for the Cincinnati Bengals to cut left tackle Levi Jones. The Bengals will trade or cut Jones because they selected Andre Smith in the first round. Meanwhile, the Bills picked Eric Wood in the first round. Buffalo plans to play him at guard but could use him at center because it drafted guard Andy Levitre in the second round. Jones could offer an option at left tackle that might allow Langston Walker to move back to right tackle. Jones remains on the Bengals' roster, but not for long. If we.... Could trade for: Henderson & Levi Jones (Mort this AM) Sign: D. Brooks or L. Hill (LB) I'll start thinking about home games in the playoffs.

And has become a whiner. So I suppose they might axe him to save some $. However, they did cut OT Kirk Barton on Friday, who they picked up the last week of '08. He was scooped up by DET on the waiver wire. If Andrew Whitworth comes back from his injury (bad high ankle sprain), I guess they'd move him back to LT, with Nate Livings at LG, Bobbie Williams at RG, and last years' #4 Anthony Collins at RT. Center is a question for them. Have to wait and see if/when Smith gets any starts...

Steely Dan Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 It is a money thing. Another question why are papers/magazines alleged experts coming out with grades already. It is so crazy. They don't mean a thing. The grades you see now are merely based on perceived value of the draft and how they filled needs. Bills should look at getting Jones. If it does not cost anything substantial I think they should pull the trigger. Even if Jones play has fallen off a little bit he could be good for a year or two as a stop gap to give bell some time to develop. Adding a good vet at LB is a no brainier since there are some out there and there might be some cut in June. either way the bills roster could use some tweaks even after a solid draft. At the very least he's very good depth. Holy sh--, i got this guy confused with Levi Brown.... hahaha I thought I owned a pair of his jeans.
Spirit of '66 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Drafted in 2002. Has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons. A downgrade from Peters, I think, but an upgrade over what they currently have. I'll second that. Jones was a first rounder. Has been slowed by injuries alot. He was replaced by some raw talents last year. Bengals really blew it by opting to pay Jones instead of Eric Steinbach (CLE) in a money decision two years ago.
Tcali Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 no, he is still good, just getting old, and maybe the Bengals think not worth the big contract they gave him... 29 is old?
OrangeJuiceSimpson Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I think we have a good shot at signing him or another vet OT. I got crucified for saying we wouldn't pick an OT in the draft an this was the reason why I thought we wouldn't.
ans4e64 Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I am pretty sure that his SERIOUS rash of injuries have hampered his career, and is the reason they desperately needed to draft a tackle in the first place. At this point (at the end of his career) we've got better guys with more upside. Pass.
Tcali Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Holy sh--, i got this guy confused with Levi Brown.... hahaha levi sells cartoon ballons
Tcali Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 !@#$- I am ancient then! hehe--I have T-shirts older than that!

cody Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I agree, there's no way Buffalo knew Cincinnati was definitely going OT at 6. I really don't think there was an OT after A. Smith who would come in and start from Day 1. Maybe Buffalo knew A.Smith was either going to go to Cincinnati or be available at 11. LT plan A - draft A. Smith @ 11 LT plan B - pick up L.Jones after Cincinnati cuts him due to drafting A.Smith @ 11 LT plan C - turn Bell into the 2nd coming of J.Peters
Deadstroke Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 I agree, there's no way Buffalo knew Cincinnati was definitely going OT at 6. I wouldn't mind the acquisition of L. Jones, because Bell isn't ready to play RT, Chambers is a swing OT, and frankly Butler isn't an OT in the NFL. Some will assail this, but it'd be a mismatch if any of them played long term at OT. And it's just wrong to say Walker can play LT long term. I really don't think there was an OT after A. Smith who would come in and start from Day 1. Neither Britton nor Beatty are the types I want playing LT against many teams. Your OL evaluations are a reach, Vet. Bell MAY be ready, we don't know that yet, Chambers, so, so, Butler has OT experience and good size for the position and very well may be ready to play the position, and Walker... maybe we'll soon find out, eh?
