The Patriots are trying to move into the Top-10 of the draft, according to SI's Peter King.

The Pats are believed to have offered their first-round pick and the middle of their three second-round picks for the Jags No. 8 overall pick, but Jacksonville turned it down. King does not believe the Pats are after Tyson Jackson despite his obvious fit as a 3-4 defensive end. The Pats' target is said to be a "surprise." Apr. 24 - 12:29 pm et

I'm sorry, you lost me at "three second-round picks."

Three-second-round-picks.

B-)

Look, I know it's the patriots and they always have a ton of picks each year, but I am just sick of it. It's like extra monopoly money for them.

if this is true, I don't see it as being Pettigrew they go after...why try for pick 8 when the only team that might go after Pettigrew is Buffalo at #11...if Pettigrew was the target then I don't see why the Pats* would be going after pick #8 and not pick#10 instead..unless they feel that the Jags would be the only team to move out of the top 10

No doubt Pettigrew. Watch it happen.

If it is Wells they're after, I'd trade pick #11 for Pats* #23 and #47..then stay with my sig mock and grab Pettigrew at #23 and grab either Loadholt OT or Meredith OT with pick #47

yes I know..they're division rivals and you never ever help division rivals..but they're the Pats*..they're gonna get good players whether we help them or not

I really don't think it's Pettigrew. They've gotta feel good that he would make it into the teens or even the 20s. Whereas Wells could go as high as 6 to Cleveland, or to Denver or New Orleans after that.

Can everyone relax? I find it highly unlikely that the Patriots are moving into the top 10 for a TE, especially in a class this deep. The Patriots have been the best in years are manipulating the draft, so this talk - whether subterfuge or not - should not surprise anybody. If they are looking to move up, though, I would be shocked if it's for a TE. With Watson and Thomas, LB and DB are much bigger needs for them and there are some good players in the first round around where they pick. If anything, I would see them moving up for Tyson Jackson to supplant Richard Seymour eventually.

Who would they be targeting?

They want to snatch Everette Brown from the Bills. They need a pass rushing specialist as much as we do.

Maybe Brady's knee is NOT 100% -- and they want Sanchez. You know, the USC connection with Cassel. Also, that trade would ostensibly mean that they traded Cassel straight up for Sanchez, given that they received a 2nd rounder from the Chiefs for him.

That's a bulls**t report. They're not trying to trade RIGHT NOW for that pick. What would be the point? Nothing guarantees the guy they want will be there until Saturday when the draft is in progress. Unless they are going to reach for someone.

Maybe the Pats are putting this info out to make other certain teams panic and jump ahead of them in the draft. Kinda like what they did to the Jets a few years back with Dwayne Robertson.

Then again, since the surplus of picks the Pats have allows them to secure a good value trade deal prior to the draft, maybe they believe they can turn around and trade that pick for a better return should a high in demand player (say a QB) fall to them during the draft.

It depends on what they mean by "surprise" pick. Is it a surprise because no one had this player going in the top 10? Or is it a surprise because the player is drafted at a position that does not appear to be a position of need?
