Magox Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 It seems pretty obvious to me that this is the type of draft that if we could, we should trade down. Of course, the problem is finding a partner to do this with. Things seem to change every day and I'm sure they will change again before the draft. A few weeks ago, I thought we had a pretty good shot at someone wanting to jump up ahead of Denver to land a qb like Sanchez or Freeman. It looks pretty likely that Sanchez will be long gone before we pick, and there has been no talk of Denver showing interest in Freeman, so I highly doubt someone will want to jump up ahead of Denver to draft him. The only solid suitor that I can think of that wants Freeman would be the Jets and they pick at #15 I believe. Another possibility, but I doubt that it is likely is if Detroit doesn't draft Stafford. I've heard speculation that he could fall out of the top ten if he doesn't get drafted by Detroit, if that is the case, then I could see Detroit or another possible suitor looking to get ahead of Denver. I doubt this will occur, but it is a possibility. The most likely scenario is if Detroit drafts Stafford, my guess is that they will be looking for someone to protect him, and if Oher isn't drafted by San Francisco, then Detroit may be looking to swap picks with us to get Oher, who is widely regarded as the 4th best Tackle in this years draft. Many believe there is a big drop off between Oher and the next best tackle. I personally don't believe that, but many of the draft geeks believe it to be so.
Leonidas Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I'm sure it's true that Detroit wants an LT out of this draft, but with so many holes to fill I don't see them trading up to #11 to do it. Plus, they're going to spend a fortune on #1, I wouldn't expect them to want to do it again at #11. IMO, our best chance to trade down would be SD at #15 so they could leapfrog Denver and get Tyson Jackson (or Raji, if he falls), and pick up a third while we're at it. Although, not having a second round pick this year, they might not be so eager.

As much as I want a good DE, a good DT is preferable given how hard they are to come by. I suspect he'll be long gone, however.
Estro Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 After paying #1 money I think the Lions would be more than happy to trade down from #20 or stay put rather than trading up.

Ernie Sims for Roscoe Parrish, Ko Simpson and us trading back to their pick.
michaelfromgermany Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Ernie Sims for Roscoe Parrish, Ko Simpson and us trading back to their pick. Would this be sweet ? We trade down with the Lions for the 20st und take Pettigrew before the Eagles.... ,-) They get our 11 und we get the 3rd pick. The first of the 3rd round, correkt ?

If you are Detroit, and you just made a huge splash by signing Stafford, the "savior" of their franchise, then I would have to believe that drafting a stud LT would be a big time priority. The Falcons did it last year, they drafted Matt Ryan then they traded up to get their future Left Tackle Sam Baker with the #21 overall pick. I could see a similar situation happening again. It makes sense

I suppose he might be some team's trade-up target.
