San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Please no one turn me in to the authorities. Alex Smith Birth Date May 22, 1982 Birth Place Denver, CO Height 6-4 Weight 258 lbs. Age 26 Position TE Experience 5 years College Stanford ProfileStatsSplitsGame LogNewsScouting InsiderPhotos 2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc. Grade: 67: Indicates an average starter Alert: None Comment: Smith is a good-sized and very athletic tight end with good playing speed as well as good body control. He is quick off the ball and can avoid the press with quick, nimble footwork on his release. He shows above-average foot quickness and agility in and out of his break and can separate from most linebackers or strong safeties. He comes out of his breaks with a decent burst and can maintain his speed to stay uncovered. He does not play as strong as you'd expect and is more of a finesse, position blocker who walls off or screens opponents away from the play. He has natural, soft hands that can reach out and pluck the ball away from his frame or highpoint the ball when in a crowd. While he does not generally make many eye-catching plays, he is reliable to make the ones he should make. He has decent elusiveness after the catch, but does not break many long ones. Overall, Smith is a quality starting tight end who still has some upside.

He has excellent skills -- good size, speed and hands. He's a decent blocker, albeit no Mark Bavaro. I'm not sure why Alex has not flourished in the NFL. For the right price I'd take him in a heartbeat.

sullim4 Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I'm surprised the Bucs aren't trying to trade Mike Williams.
bizell Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 smith is a pretty good receiver. i don't really remember much about his blocking.
