The first is like drinking water and the other is like drinking water after you've had your taste buds removed and your nose plugged. I seem to remember John Butler and Tom Donahoe being much more interesting in their vanilla responses. There was always something that you could reflect on and try to guess the meaning of. They would typically throw us some kind of bone. Not that I'm complaining. Bill Belichick and his disciples are making this league more paranoid, less fan-friendly, and more covert than ever before. These boilerplate non-answers suggests someone who doesn't possess the courage of his own convictions regarding fan interaction. Why do it if you have no interest in answering the most vanilla of questions? I'm not saying he should give away the store, but some of these answers simply insult fans' intelligence. Belichick is typically pretty uniniformative, but he's unique and moreover he's earned it. A lot of guys are more open than this (AJ Smith; Polian), and in comparison he comes across as a scared robot. I mean, does he really think that if he says that yeah, we need a defensive end, he's torpedoing the Bills draft board?? He's going to draft 11th regardless of whether he admits this, and the same guys are going to be available. Ya, to me this is kind of degrading. Does Russ think these answers will make the fans happy or let them gain insight on the draft? It makes me think that he thinks we are idiots.
