silvermike Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Seriously. Well, he's not refusing to work while negotiating for a contract, but DeMaurice Smith was somehow elected to the union's presidency without agreeing to salary terms or signing a contract. It sounds like any other contract scuffle: the union wants a 3-year deal, Smith wants 5. According to Pasquarelli, the sides are over $5 million dollars apart. The league is headed for a big disaterous labor action in the next three years, and the union can't even make sure they've got anyone on charge. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4087237

I have never heard of an elected official stating their contract years or salary have you?
bartshan-83 Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 The new Players Association President begins his career with a holdout?? The owners must be thrilled about how future negotiations regarding rookie salary limits will go. They should refuse to sign him and force him to re-enter the draft next year....
bourbonboy Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Seems to me that he just doesn't want to work for this union - maybe his agent can get the NFLPA to trade him to another union (perhaps one based in Philly?) that will agree to pay him what he wants....
silvermike Posted April 22, 2009 Author Posted April 22, 2009 I guess the distinction here is that while he's complaining about his contract, he is still working. But if he's anything like Jason Peters, his featured client, he's probably not giving his all.
