Norman Matton
Thomas (November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968) was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1911. As a candidate for President of the U. S., Norman Thomas said, in a 1944 epoch speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened."

He went on to say:

"I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has adopted our platform."

He's posting for Republican supporters, most of whom are older and might have vision problems (figuratively and literally).

I'd say Norman's vision was crystal clear in 1944, WRT his comments about the Democrat party. Obviously your vision is clouded by the smog of obamas spending. Enjoy it.

...and he's on his third term now. Brilliant!

We're pretty far gone down the socialist road. FDR probably manned the helm during the biggest turn we took down that road but no one since him has down anything but contribute to more of the same.

I'm surprised no-one is bringing up some of the programs that Richard Nixon funded ... and held dear...that would curl any self-respecting wingnut's hair. I am continually surprised at what a complex mix of contradictions were represented by Mr. Nixon.

Valid point. I just finished FDR VS the Constitution. The ground work was there. The democrats wielded that power for a long time. The republicrats just seemed to use it at their whim when they had control. They lost their vision. !@#$'em......
