JM57 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Here's a look at some of the players picked (some still relevant, some thrown in for Bills nostalgia) at these draft slots since 2000: #11: McKelvin, Patrick Willis, Cutler, Demarcus Ware, Roethlisberger, Trufant, Freeney, Dan Morgan, Ron Dayne #28: Lawrence Jackson, Joe Staley, Marcedes Lewis, Luis Castillo, Chris Gamble, Jerramy Stevens, Rob Morris #42: Eddie Royal, Tony Ugoh, Danieal Manning, Kevin Burnett, Travis Laboy, Ken Hamlin, Larry Tripplett, Cornelius Griffin #75: Reggie Smith, Laurent Robinson, Jason Spitz, Eric Green, Max Starks, Chris Redman #110: Brandon Jacobs, Nathan Vasher, Seneca Wallace and the immortal....Brandon Spoon. #121: Duke Preston, Justin Griffith, Correll Buckhalter and back in 2000...Avion Black. I was bored. Figured some draftniks might find some interest in the history of these draft slots.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Nice little diversion from the endless Peters m*sturb*tion. Amazing to me that people still want to argue about that one, especially when no one is changing anyone else's mind. The ultimate game of "fraid not, fraid so." Whatever. Your post somewhat confirms the perception that the #11 spot is an excellent place to be. The money goes down dramatically and the team picking at #11 is positioned nicely to cherry pick a top talent who drops down a bit. That's important as we have little margin for error in missing on these two number ones this year. Good stuff. Thanks.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 BTW, your post makes me wonder what the #21 position yields. I'm dying to see who comes off the board between 21 and 28 this Saturday. I could be wrong but I'm really wishing that we could had gotten #21...

BEAST MODE BABY! Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 #21 picks:Sam Baker, Reggie Nelson, Laurence Maroney, Matt Jones, Vince Wilfork, Jeff Faine, Daniel Graham, Nate Clements, Sylvester Morris That hurts bad compared to #28.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Thanks for doing the work JM. Greatly appreciated. #21 picks: Sam Baker, Reggie Nelson, Laurence Maroney, Matt Jones, Vince Wilfork, Jeff Faine, Daniel Graham, Nate Clements, Sylvester Morris #28: Lawrence Jackson, Joe Staley, Marcedes Lewis, Luis Castillo, Chris Gamble, Jerramy Stevens, Rob Morris Maybe a bit of a difference but not much. Bottom line is we can't whiff on this pick.

Bottom line is we can't whiff on this pick. It's easy stuff, and I'm interested in it so it's not a problem. I completely agree with you on the #11 pick. Excluding Ron Dayne, who after 1220 carries in college already had a ton of wear-and-tear on him, when Dan Morgan is arguably the worst player picked in that slot in the last decade? I think it's almost a lock to get a contributor at that pick.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Hey JM, I noticed that you had 9 players at the #21 picks and only 7 at the #28 picks so I looked into it. The list was missing Andre Woolfolk and Derrick Gibson. Here's the amended list. #21 picks: Sam Baker, Reggie Nelson, Laurence Maroney, Matt Jones, Vince Wilfork, Jeff Faine, Daniel Graham, Nate Clements, Sylvester Morris #28: Lawrence Jackson, Joe Staley, Marcedes Lewis, Luis Castillo, Chris Gamble, Andre Woolfolk, Jerramy Stevens, Derrick Gibson, Rob Morris As for the #21s, Too early to tell with Baker, Nelson looks excellent, Maroney started well but has been on the road to bust lately, Jones is a bust, Wilfork is excellent, Faine is excellent, Graham is very good, Clements is very good, and Morris was a bust. I would say 3 excellent, 2 very good, 1 good, 1 n/a, 2 busts. As for the #28s, Too early to tell on Jackson, Staley is very good, Lewis is good, Castillo is good, Gamble is very good, Woolfolk was a bust, Stevens is a criminal but good player, Gibson was a bust, and Morris was good but short career. I would say 0 excellent, 2 very good, 4 goods, 1 n/a, 2 busts. Looks like the guys chosen at #21 fared a little bit better.

And just decided to leave them out.
crazyDingo Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Eddie Royal was a steal at #42. I loved him in Coming to America, and that funny Cop movie.
