cåblelady Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Not technically, though it's about a 30-35 minute drive from Syracuse. For all intents & purposes, it's a Syracuse suburb. It's an Ithaca suburb.
Heat89 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I played 4 years for SUNY Cortland Football for 4 years the stadium is awsome compared to anything else D3 even St. John Fisher. However the city/town is pretty dumpy, college town not much else.
VJ91 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I wouldn't call Cortland a Syracuse suburb. Cortland is about 30 miles south of Syracuse. It would be like calling Batavia a suburb of Buffalo. It's a strange place for the Jets to move up route 81 to though. I had no idea Cortland and south down to Binghamton was a hot bed of Jets fans?
VJ91 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Is Russ going to do anything about this? Isn't it against league rules? http://blog.syracuse.com/orangefootball/20..._of_moving.html Yeah, Russ will do something about this. Watch for training camp to move to freakin' Hamilton, Ontario the day the Bills Rochester contract comes up.
Just Jack Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I wouldn't call Cortland a Syracuse suburb. Agreed Not technically, though it's about a 30-35 minute drive from Syracuse. For all intents & purposes, it's a Syracuse suburb. Disagree Syracuse has suburbs? Fayetteville Manlius Clay Cicero Brewerton Solvay Camillus Layfayette Nedrow I know there's a few more I can't remember right now.
BuffaloBill Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I wouldn't call Cortland a Syracuse suburb. Absolutely not but relatively short drive down 81.

The imaginary dividing line for Bills/Jets has always been Binghamton. West of Binghamton = Bills territory. East of Binghamton = Jets/Giants territory. Good thing I'm west of Binghamton.
May Day 10 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 But at least the Dark Horse Tavern will be rockin in the summer now. +1
PearlHowardman Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I honestly don't know ANY Jets fans here in Syracuse. Moreover, Cortland is a zillion miles away from NYC. I don't see Jets fans traveling upstate to the training camp. They must be pissed!
Frez Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I'll bet the NY Jets get many Buffalo fans/NY Giant fans to attend that camp in Cortland NY. Cortland is not far from my place. I will consider attending that camp if they do in fact have it there. Frez

But no Jets fans in attendance because there's very few of them in this part of NY and Cortland is too far away from NYC for the fans to travel to. Must SUCK for Jets fans!
Mr. WEO Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 True Fun Fact... Florham Park is the home to the New York Jets training camp...where in 2008 the Jets relocated to...from their old digs/facility which was at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. In 2006, Florham Park beat out Berkeley Heights, Jersey City, Millburn, South Amboy, and Wood-Ridge, which had all been finalists contending to be the host of the new facility... Now after spending millions for their NEW Florham facility, in which they only have USED ONCE....They move their training camp outside of Syracuse to gain more fans and to regionalize! Not a fact. Actually, the Florham Park site is their regular training facility, not their training camp. The facility is where they train year round. Cortland is where they will spend at least part of their training camp. The Florham Park site does not have bleachers, fan parking or dorms so it can't function as a traditional training camp.

I know plenty of NY Jet fans in my area. I imagine the Cortland camp will be infested with Jets fans when the time comes.

I just don't see it. They're probably angry that training camp is so far away. I don't care about Cortland area bandwagon Jets fans.
Mediaman Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 The Jets are moving training camps to Cortland this summer, how do you feel this will work for them, are they trying lure some Bills fans away from? http://www.1010wins.com/Jets-Will-Move-Sum...Upstate/4234063
Mike in Syracuse Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Isn't that region Jets and Giants fans anyways. I would guess it's mostly Giants and Bills country. The positive for the Jets is that it'll be easy for the players to get some rest because there's absolutely NOTHING going on in Cortland.
ACor58 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Isn't that region Jets and Giants fans anyways. Outside of Long Island and parts if NYC it is probably hard to find a Jets fan.

3cheesenacho Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I would classify the Cortland/Syracuse/Ithaca area as primarilly bills country, with some giants fans and maybe a rare jets fan... This surprises me quite a bit and I do see it as them trying to lure away some Bills fan
