Going 2-ways

Since the Bill's have declared the need for DE help and a playmaking TE.

Would not Conner Barwin fill both those needs.

As a Situational pash rusher you don't need to have years of experiance in a defense or play every down.

As a 4.4 forty, 260 # tight end he would demand to be accounted for downfield and should help the run game blocking too.

Just a thought, standing by for the heat....

I actually really like that idea. But he wouldn't be able to be your #1 TE OR your #1 DE because he'd have to split his practice time in addition to the fact that no one has the stamina to play that many plays. He's also going to probably go in the second round, whereas a Chase Coffman might go in the third. But I like the idea. He's a Belichick kind of guy, my guess is that NE takes him in the second.

I don't think it is a question of stamina. In the OLD DAYS guys played both offense & defense. Those guys back in the day NEVER trained in the offseason, knew nothing about conditioning, smoked & drank a lot more than most players today, I can't believe they had more stamina than todays players.

This guy could fill the Vrabel role in NE, I bet you he is being looked at by the Patsies.

Yes, and they were also competing against other guys who nothing about conditioning, and smoke and

drank a lot, and probably didn't have much stamina either. It is all relevant.

Yeah, I thought about that, but they weren't the athletes back then that they are today. When they ran into a real athlete like Don Hutson, and later Bob Hayes, they were just embarrassed.

Good News. If the Pat* want him, they'll have to take him in the first or trade one of their picks to move up around the Bills' RD2#42, because that's about where he's going.

Agreed, but the point is they were on the field for 60 minutes with only a 15 min break at half time. That was probably the reason for halftime, to give the guys a break.

Except that they have the 34th and 47th picks (from trades with KC and SD, respectively) as well.

Yeah, I mean, these pro athletes today would certainly be able to play football for sixty minutes without keeling over and dying, I mean, they guys did it in the Arena League. But a guy playing both sides is going to get creamed by a specialist, both in terms of his freshness on each play and his training at his position.

Agreed, but if you're only in on 3rd and long ect. and in rotation at TE or not at all in a 5 wide. Whats that, 15-20 plays a game?

As was said Vrabel seems to do it. His TD pass catching is a matter of record.

Barwin seems like a real beast who would probably get off on it.

Everyone who questions the feasibility of an NFL player playing two ways is focusing on the physical challenge. I saw a Bills defensive playbook in the 1980's. It was over 200 pages long.

The game is extremely complex in the NFL compared to college. The biggest hurdle would be mental, not physical. Regardless, between the two factors I agree he would make only limited but perhaps important contributions on both sides of the ball.

From Barwin's standpoint I'm sure he would rather be (for the sake of $) a pass rusher than a tight end. Whoever drafts him would probably prefer he be a pass rusher than a tight end because pass rushers are so hard to find. So yes, Vrabel is a good comparison and I'd be fine with that but Barwin has a greater upside as he's much more athletic than Vrabel.

I love Barwin as a player and would be overjoyed to get him in the 2nd round...even if the Bills took a defensive lineman in the first round.

I'm in that group who'd love to see both top picks on defensive line/front 7 with offensive line in the 3rd round and tight end in the 4th round...depending of course upon who's there when we draft and the resolution of the Peters situation, etc.

No matter who drafts him. Barwin will take snaps on both sides of the ball.
