LabattBlue Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 OL, DL, LB, TE and maybe one day 2 safety? No QB, RB, WR or CB. Ideally I'd like the Bills to trade down at some point in the draft and pick up an extra pick or two, but still focus on the positions listed above.
Big Hurt Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I like to see some help at conrners and safety in the later rounds if some good ones are available. Our players seem to get injured vey easily. We will be running out of players again this November. DE, SLB, OT, OG, TE, and DT are priority. We need as many picks as possible.
abqmarko Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 2009 Draft- Trade down from #11 even to Miami-if it gains an additional second rounder-Great late round guy available for the O-Line would be Alex Mack, best C in years and can play OG. Buffalo historically (since Modrak and the Donahoe era began) drafted specialist positions and neglected the O-Line. We obviously need to beef that area up especially if Peters is traded and we get an additional 1st and 3rd rounder and then traded down with #11 we could be looking at : 2-mid-late first rounders 2-second rounders and 2- third rounders. OT sleepers Eben Britton late 1st round (next year would be a top 10 pick and can play LT or RT and we get him a year early)or JT Lang in the late second, early third-Alex Mack would be available in the late 1st and pencil him in as starter from day #1. Peopl need to get off the Demetrius Bell bandwagon until the guys actually does something-give me an Alex Mack or Eben Britton anyday of the week.

I'd be ok with it, but they're going to have to pick up one more legit ball carrier as well, either in draft or FA. Early in the year, Lynch will most likely be out for 2-4 games. Late in the year, there will be at least a couple games where the passing game is eliminated by weather. Right now, this team has only 2 legit RB's. After that, Omon is the only RB on the roster and his numbers from all last year are 5 yards on 6 carries. I remember him even looking unimpressive in pre-season last year. I think you have to acquire some quality here in order to spread it around.
The Senator Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I'm still not comfortable with the QB situation - I'd grad Graham Harrell if he's still there in the late rounds.

In the first 5 rounds, yes i'd have no problem with that. In rounds 6 and 7, take guys you think can contribute or you can develop in the future, regardless of position.
The Senator Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 I'd have a tough time passing on Crabtree. Likewise, if Graham Harrell is still hanging around in rounds 6 & 7, how do you pass him up, knowing that Trent Edwards will probably not make it through a season of NFL hits?

Imo almost every draft should include a mid to late round quarterback. If for no other reason, they have great trade value if they show anything.
PushthePile Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Imo almost every draft should include a mid to late round quarterback. If for no other reason, they have great trade value if they show anything. Absolutely. It's a great move and other teams have had alot of luck with this strategy.
Sherman Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 As far as I am concerned we were beat by our line play last year on both sides of the ball. The QBs were rattled and we could not pick up a short yardage first down to save our life. Our dline could not get any pressure on opposing QBs and late in the games teams ran over us because we couldn't get off the field. What I would like to see from here until the draft is: 1) Sign Peters 2) With the #11 pick get the best available pass rusing DE 3) With our 2nd round pick draft the highest available C. 4) Best available C or DT 5) With the remaining picks get the best available at any of the following positions LB, TE, C/G, DT, or OT Is there anyone on our offensive line ouside of Peters that could start for the Patriots or Steelers? What about our defensive line? Stroud? Schobel? I loved what the Colts did last year in drafting two Centers. They solidified the interior of their line for the next several years because both players can move to guard. It all starts with the lines and we will continue to lose until we address this issue.
