The great helmsman has town hall meeting

We do when the truth is that Obama and the Clinton Administration V2 is turning us into Europe.

That's good for you because you want that kind of world. True conservatives don't. When Obama's plan makes us wish for Jimmy Carter again, maybe you'll get it.

With your attitude, it is amazing you even cry when our buildings get blown up.

:rolleyes::blink:

I actually didn't cry when our buildings were blown up. What I did do was go to work, say some prayers, have my financial advisor ready to throw some money into some investments as soon as the markets opened again and have a business trip booked the very day the airlines started flying again. The only times I cry either involves my son or that one time each year when people somehow feel that watching a World Series game is a good reason to cancel an evening of Monday Night Football.

In the meantime, you don't need to be an economic genius to see that our current spending spree will do more long-term harm than short-term good. But hey...I'm shovel ready. Are you? Or do you need a tissue before we get to work again?

Lets set the story srtaight and NOT fixate on the Sean Hannity lie.

Obama: America has been 'arrogant and dismissive ... THEN he followed that up with ......

"But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual, but can also be insidious. Instead of recognising the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what is bad."

He sited BOTH sides as being at fault.

And if you don't think Americans are arrogant, you are fooling yourself.

Let's assume all Americans are arrogant, okay? It's a moronically stupid thing to believe, but for the sake of argument, let's just say we are.

You can NOT have any level of confidence without arrogance. And you can NOT have any level of leadership without confidence. Who the !@#$ cares if we're arrogant as long as we get the job done, and time and again this country has gotten the !@#$king job done for the rest of the world when the rest of the world didn't have the nutsack to do it themselves.

This country provides the greatest opportunity of ANY country in the world, and millions of people from all over the world come HERE to make a life for themselves. This country is so goddamn great that people risk their very lives to get here by being shoved in the back of a rusty VW microbus, eating Chicklets and drinking yak urine while crawling across a desert just to have an opportunity to mow your !@#$king lawn.

So do me a favor; spare me the apologies on my behalf. If you have a problem with our country...if you think we're too arrogant...well, allow me to send you a big, fat, arrogant Kiss My Rosy Red Ass because I don't give a !@#$ what other people think of this country as long as the people of this country believe that it is, without question, the greatest, most powerful, and singularly important country in the entire !@#$king world.

Why don't you actually respond to the post you were responding too? Bad Lieutenant pointed out that Obama's speech also contained a portion where he pointed the finger at Europe for being overly critical and unappreciative toward America, but you just chose to brush that aside with a nationalistic rant. It seems that you'd rather give a big "f*ck you" to anybody that questions the American psyche than actually concede a point to Obama, even when you clearly agree with what he said.

And, by the way, it all depends on how you define "greatest nation". Agreed, America provides the greatest opportunities and many would die to come here. But America does struggle when compared to other nations in Western civilization when it comes to primary and secondary education, literacy, obesity, general health, life expectancy, the strength of our currency, unemployment. If you really look at the situation objectively, the "greatest nation in the world" thing is more of an emotional response than a practical one. I love my country, but to turn a blind eye to all the problems we're dealing with and just say "nope, I don't care, we're the greatest" is ignorant.

First of all, I think Obama was just as stupid to tell the Europeans how insidious they are. It was just stupid. You can bring a positive message without pointing out that everyone around you sucks. But when you get everyone agreeing that they all suck, guess what? They DO!

Second of all, the reason this is the greatest country is because we can simply choose to be literate, thin, healthy, wealthy and consistently employed, and make almost ALL of that happen by our own free will with the right effort and dedication. There is absolutely nothing in this country which keeps anyone from all of those goals. In fact, what makes this a great country is that you have your own free will to NOT turn a blind eye to the problems, and in fact FACE those problems head on, so that you, on your own, can overcome them. So hell yeah, we're the greatest because we have the freedom to be the greatest. If some people decide they want to go through life fat, illiterate, poor and unemployed, I'd argue that many of them are not trying hard enough. I know because I was there. But I put myself through college. Went to where the work was. Did ANY kind of work I needed to do. Committed myself to a better life, and when you do that, you find the opportunities. From there, it's up to you make the most of the opportunities.

To a person, this is the greatest nation, bar none. But it is ONLY what YOU make of it.

Well put. :worthy:

We do certainly have the most liberties. Unfortunately, many Americans fail to use those liberties to make better people out of themselves. Just don't forget that other nations have their merits too.

You see, there's your problem. I never said I disliked America. I said I love America. I was just kindly trying to offer a little perspective, and I challenge you to name one claim of mine that isn't true. Furthermore, if you look above, you'll see that I conceded LA's point.

Why do you insist on turning every rational, sober opinion into "you hate America"? I mean, America isn't perfect. We have some problems in a myriad of issues if you hadn't noticed. Why do you equate a recognition of those problems with a distaste for the country itself?

You're right, other nations have their merits too.

France = Great wine

Italy = Great wine

Spain = Great wine

Portugal = Great wine

Australia = Great wine

South Africa = Great wine

Germany = Great wine

New Zealand = Great wine

Argentina = Great wine

Chili = Great wine

Tomorrow children we'll discuss the merits of other country's food.

And you know why people fail to use those liberties to their advantage. They're lazy.

I disagree with this...

1- The US has public and private options for primary and secondary education, that can lay a foundation for excellence. Can certain institutions be improved upon, certainly, but I don't know how we struggle compared to otehr nations.

2- Literacy - This ties in with #1. We have a myriad of options available for folks to be literate, including adult education and English as a 2nd language. If I moved to France without knowing the language, how far would I get?

3- Obesity - This is a global problem in developed countries, not just a US problem. I will concede that when 20% of 4-year olds are overweight or obese, yes, we had better do something about that. And playing Wii for gym class is not the solution.

4- General Health - Is this why people from all over the world come to the US to get their medical problems taken care of, provided they can afford to do so?

5- Life Expectancy - I don't know much about this, but presume we are on par with other Western civilized nations.

6- Currency - We are the world's reserve currency and this will not change. Period.

7- Unemployment - Pre-recession, we had one of the lowest unemployment rates among civilized countries. France had riots over lack of opportunities and the quasi-socialist systems have massive unemployment problems because their businesses are too constrained by entitlement spending to become the next greeat global corporation.

I never assumed all American's are arrogant. Just a select few that thought that they could start a war and have it end in 6 months (that actually has lasted more than 6 years).

Oh, so Obama was talking about Bush when he said "America" is arrogant? He was talking about Bush when he said "In America, there is a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world."?

I guess because I didn't vote for him, I wasn't eligible for his Super-Secret-European-Apology-Tour-We-All-Suck Decoder Ring. That'll learn me.

Frankly, I don't particularly care for anyone -- Democrat, Republican, whatever -- who finds it worthwhile to start a speech overseas with "In America, there is a failure..." But it makes people on the left feel better because the world suddenly likes us again. I can't wait to go overseas and finally feel proud and confident when I speak in Austrian.
