They are talking about possibly trading for Jason Peters

Recommended Posts

I say screw Peters.

Draft a replacement in the and tell Peters to accept the deal on the table or play out the remainder of his contract. If we take Oher at #11 we have a T who can easily play LG for us this year. If Peters holds out we have personel to soften the blow. If he signs or decides to play on his exisitng deal we have a solid OL.

Under no circumstance woudl I even consider making Peters the highest paid LT in the game. 1.) because he is not worth it 2.) because he held the team hostage last year 3.) He sign an extension odf his own will and still has 2 years left on that deal.

Evans could have held out, but he didn't and the team rewarded him for that. Peters on the other hand already received a raise and a contract extension and then a year later cost this team with a hold out.

There is no argument out there for caving into Peters demands. NONE. If the Bills are stupid enough to leave the leverage in peters hands and not have a replacement option ready to go after the draft.. OR if the Bills are stupid enough to trade him just to not have to deal with him anymore, well then the franchise would just re-prove how incredibly inept they are.

Good points, all valid. You are missing the big picture however. Peters is that good. He is huge, fast, strong and I don't care how many Bills fans' think this is meaningless, a two time consecutive Pro Bowler. Why should the Bills settle for a lesser talent when they simply don't have to? Not very many NFL players hol out an entire off season until the day before the first game of the regular season, and then have a Pro Bowl season. I can think of only Bruce Smith in my recent Bills memory who was every able to pull anything close to that off. So Evans didn't hold out and Peters did. So what? Every player is different. Plus Peters must regret holding out because he fired his agent.

I say yes, pay the guy his money, secure one of the most important positions in the NFL with a bonified Pro Bowl player, and move on.

Outstanding post!

You look around the NFL, and how many franchise left tackles are currently playing in the NFL, as young as Peters, with two consecutive Pro Bowls under their belts??? Of course this kid is worth the money or two number one picks. If the circle jerks trade him for less, then they are more pathetic then I give them credit for.

Your view of Peters and his play for us is so distorted like over half the people on this message board. The guy had just an awful year in 2008. He could not block anyone. He plays soft, and has a terrible first step back on pass protection (see Joey Porter and everyone else who went around him) I believe the Bills think he is a good but not spectacular player. He should be offered Jordan Gross money, and not a penny more. This team is not going to live or die with Jason Peters at left tackle. He is not that much of a gamechanger. If he will not accept the Bills best offer before the draft, we need to trade his big butt before we make our first pick.

And for anyone who has no clue to the value of players being traded in today's NFL, we will not get BOTH of Philly's first round picks. We should get their higher first round pick and possibly a third or fourth. But noone short of Brady or P. Manning, is getting traded for two first rounders in the same draft.

Peters is just not worth the trouble. Continuity on an O line is everything. A line is as good as the SUM of its parts. Not as good as just one player. Try and comprehend it.

You are, of course, referring to the 10 PLAYS IN THE ENTIRE YEAR WHERE THE GUY GETS BEAT, AND USING IT TO JUSTIFY SAYING THAT HE CAN'T BLOCK ANYONE.

That is among the most ignorant things I've ever heard. Put on the tape of the Jacksonville game, the first drive Peters plays the entire year, and watch him plow the road on Lynch's touchdown run; blowing out the DE and bucketing out to pancake Daryl Smith (MLB).

Listen, you're probably a really nice person, but that kind of thought process is ridiculous.

Also, there's no way to gauge the trade value of a franchise left tackle, BECAUSE NO OTHER ORGANIZATION IS STUPID ENOUGH TO TRADE ONE AWAY.

By the way, continuity is apparently so important that last offseason the Steelers let LG Alan Faneca go, signed a C (Hartwig) to replace Sean Mahan, lost their starting RG (Simmons) early in the season, and replaced Max Starks at RT with Trai Essex, and all they did was win the Superbowl.

Peace.

insightful as well. a totally new perspective, never heard before, on a situation that i'm sure few knew existed.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so derisive. So what if it's a new thread? There's a relatively new report that suggests that it's possible, so hence it's news. What should people be talking about? Who the Bill are going to draft in the sixth round? Peters is the team's most talented player and plays at one of the three most important positions (QB, RDE, and LT). Hence the desire to discuss what might happen.

Nice sarcasm The Senator. Do you anything original to add to the discussion, or are you the monitor of all posts that don't measure up to your unique standards??

That's my point, my friend - there is nothing original to add to the discussion, other than maybe this...

Would you like to see a few dozen more?

If Peters isn't worth talking about, why are you participating in the discussion and keeping the thread near the top?

That's pretty much how I feel as well.

People's opinions on this topic are so firmly ingrained, it doesn't matter what anyone says, it won't change their view.

The only way I trade Peters is if Philly would offer us both their 1st round picks. For those that are saying noway is peters worth that much nobody really knows. I say nobody knows because Franchise Left Tackles going into the prime of their career & have 2 years left on a very management friendly contract never become available. Whether you think Peters is a franchise left tackle is besides the point. My guess is that is how he is viewed around the league. Then with the 11th pick I would take the best tackle on the board & with one of Philly's picks I would take the best guard/center on the board. We would still have another 1st rnd pick to go defense.

If they are going to keep him though, they need to pay him the money. We do not need any distractions this summer.

My sentiments exactly.

Peters is an emerging talent, and for an emerging talent to already be voted to 2 Pro Bowls this early in his career, says alot about the respect that he has from those that matter- his peers.

I mean, they paid Kelsay waaaay too much for lackluster talent. Peters should be compensated based on his ability and he is the type of impact player they desperately need.

Based on his upside and considering that this is only the start of his career, he should command 2 1st round picks. This would allow Buffalo to gamble on a LT in the 1st round, a mauling G or C, and a pass-rushing DE/OLB. To address 3 positions of need like this, is the ONLY move that makes sense.

Otherwise, the Bills should loosen the purse a tad, as they basically stole Peters, as he developed from an undrafted TE into a dominating, franchise LT and is being paid peanuts in relation to the rest of the league. I don't fault the Bills for having a project pay off for the bargain basement price, but he has truly panned out and has tremendous upside and should be compensated for the same.

This is not the time nor the player for the Bills to be pinching pennies.
