You just leapfrogged Wacka, RkFast, Molson, Stupid Nation, Big Cat. I admire that. In case you don't get the point, I had a 401K when I was 21 and made $8/hour. The least paid people I employ make 40K/year and have 401Ks. edit. Add pBills.

Chef Jim
McDonalds actually has an excellent 401k plan. Well he does have a point here. Being offered a 401k and actually participating in one are two different things. I've actually talked to some small business owners and ask if they offer their employees a 401k plan. Many say no. When I ask why not they say they can't affort to match.

I had a 401K in 1989 when I made $4.50 an hour. And it is my point: Going broke and in debt to save 401K money or any other retirement vehicle. Sounds pretty stupid to me. Why don't individuals insist that they get more wage per hour and forget about a 401K program. Create wealth now and forget about this "pot and the end of the rainbow BS". My company just reduced the 50% matching to 25%.

John Adams
I had a 401K in 1989 when I made $4.50 an hour. And it is my point: Going broke and in debt to save 401K money or any other retirement vehicle. Sounds pretty stupid to me. Why don't individuals insist that they get more wage per hour and forget about a 401K program. Go hire a financial adviser now, or just end up living off the public dole in 40 years like every other person who "thinks" like you. Your hourly WAGE that your employer pays is in no way diminished by participating in your 401K. If I had an employee come to me and say that they wanted more salary and would give up their ability to deposit their wages into their 401K, I would not laugh (on the outside), but I would sit them down and explain that the 401K costs me nothing (or so little to administer that it's close enough to nothing). I offer my employees the option of participating in a 401K--I think it costs about $200/year per employee to administer and I pay for it. So the 401K benefit is peanuts. Create wealth now and forget about this "pot and the end of the rainbow BS". Who is going to rescue you when you have saved nothing? My employees get a wage; out of that wage, they can save whatever the !@#$ out of that they want. The 401K is merely a savings vehicle like an investment account or savings account or CD or bond. It has certain tax advantages that make it appealing. That's it. The wealth you create now can be deposited into a 401K tax free (up to limits). That's all it is. I know you have no idea what I'm talking about because your post makes no sense. What you need, desperately, is a financial adviser. I don't recommend them for everyone but for someone like you, who has no idea what you're doing, you need one yesterday. My company just reduced the 50% matching to 25%. That's too bad. It happens. Are you saying you don't want the free money because there's less of it now? Even if it was 0%, saving what you can in a 401K probably makes sense for you. Unless you are looking forward to a future on the public's nickel.
