Navy is decomming the Mayport, Florida based carrier USS John F Kennedy, leaving Florida without a carrier.

But this will hurt the economy around Mayport. So they want to relocate a carrier from Norfolk (I guess the economic impact here isn't worth worrying about)

The cost of relocating a carrier from Norfolk to Mayport? $600M...coming out of a budget with an existing shortfall of $400M

Mayport?

Hey, Congress specifically ordered the LCS in two vastly different forms (Lockheed-Martin's traditional hulled ship), and a trimaran hull from General Dynamics. They specifically did this - ordered two different versions of the same ship - as a jobs program, just as they've been known to fund ship construction the Navy doesn't want (and can't operate for lack of crew and operating funds) simply to appease Congressmen in specific shipbuilding districts. Spending $600M to re-base a nuclear carrier to keep Florida Congresscritters happy is just pocket change.

Are you losing a job as a result? Maybe you can get a bailout.

if you were an illegal wetback or a union member, you'd get a job from the stimulus bill doing construction at elevated union rates.
