I'm generally empathetic and supportive to cops. However, I can't for the life of me understand your logic. I hope he lives in your neighborhood and not mine.

Ok, there obviously is a populist sentiment going on right now.

People are ready to get the pitchforks out and lynch someone.

In no way am I condoning his actions. What I said was that there was no crime committed on his part. Or was there?

also, could you please tell me what part of my logic you don't understand?

please

enlighten me

No, I'm glad that you brought this up. When I read this article earlier today it really bothered me.

It reminded me of a recent subtle remark made by Jevon Kearse when I met him at a gas station last week. I met him because he was unable to change a $100.00 bill while I was waiting in line. I recognized him and offered to make the neccessary change for him. I then proceded to pay for my gas and buy a few scratch-off lottery tickets. When I went to pay for the services I didn't realize that I didn't have enough for both. I numbly (I was still starstruck for a moment) offered the $100.00 bill that I just changed for Jevon and Kearse said something to the effect that "They wouldn't do it for me but maybe they'll do it for you".

When I reflected on the whole experience later, I remembered and pondered that remark probably longer than any one thing during that whole meeting. I then dismissed it as it being just an oversensitive African-American athlete. To be fair I have heard these types of remarks from other African-Americans that I have known thru the years, some have even been good friends.

It's sad that this exists but it's even more disturbing that someone, anyone, could be so insensitive to another person in the time of crisis like what Ryan Moats and his family were going thru. It doesn't matter what the color was of any of the people involved, it's just bs that someone could be like that to another fellow human being but of course that it was a black and white incident only puts a more uglier, glaring light on the whole thing. It's too bad, that cop should should be ashamed of himself and also be ashamed of the reflection that he casts on his parents and his whole family.

Did they change the 100 for you?

of course!lets pull out the racial card!oh my another black man pulled over by a white cop in the early hours of the morning gee it must be because the cop is a jerk!!!!HMMMM.it cant be hes doing his job or anything like that! and im really sure moats was a real sweetheart to the cop as im sure most professional athletes are when they get pulled over! hmm sat.the 22nd 4 police officers gunned down after a routine traffic stop in oakland!!!!!!!!!!! YES LETS BLAME THE COPS AND GLORIFY THE NEWS MEDIA BECAUSE AS EVERYONE KNOWS THE COPS ARE ALWAYS WRONG AND THE NEWS MEDIA IS DEFINITELY NOT BIASED!!!!!! UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!

Before you make stupid statements you need to research the incident. If you watch the video Moats was extremely respectful just agitated that he wouldn't be able to see his MIL before she died. The cop should have escorted him to the ER desk and when he found out he wasn't lying let him go with no trouble at all. JMO

One thing that was missed from this article - The Cop PULLED HIS GUN on the Moats' wife!

I think if this was a "normal" case, him and the city they're in would be getting sued (they still may be).

However, in this case with an NFL player I think he may just push for this guy to get fired and let it go there.

If this happened to anyone but a NFL player it would probably have never seen the light of day. I think this kind of thing happens a lot more than is reported.

yeah i saw the video and i dont see where the cop was a jerk and i dont see where he was wrong!!!what i see is a cop doing his job!

What I see is a cop who is heartless and is "doing his job" by the book. The book can be thrown out in emergencies and if this doesn't constitute an emergency then there are no reasons for an officer to ever be compassionate.

He pulled his gun on people going to see their mother/mother-in-law take her last breaths. If he had his way, neither one of them would have made it in time.

The guy was a jerk. Remember, this all happened in the parking lot of the friggen hospital within a few feet of the entrance. It is not like this was miles away from the hospital.

Exactly. This cop obviously doesn't have an ounce of compassion for those he was hired to "Serve and Protect"

Yes, they got out in a hurry at a friggen hospital.

And what did he do when they told him the woman's mother was dying?

Given the tempers shown on this board, I can guaranty that most of us on TBD would not have been as calm as Moates was.

If my mother or mother-in-law was about to take her last breath, I would be a lot more upset than he was.

The cop showed very poor judgment. Part of being a good cop is not acting disproportionately to the situation at hand.

There are a lot of very good cops. This guy is not one of them.

What he said. :D

For those who can't understand why this is a racial issue it's simple. The cop was white and the person he hassled was black. Does it mean the cop did it due to race? No. However, racial tensions between blacks and white cops have a long history because white cops have a lot of the time used race in making their decisions.

The cops are 90% great human beings but some are only cops in order to get a power fix for themselves. If it was racial it certainly wouldn't be close to the first time.

Your points are valid. Those who say they aren't are just being internet bullies. The problem, is that the validity of your points are negated because you typed in all caps, and you sound like you're dying to start an argument. You're not necessarily right, but you're not wrong. That's no excuse for acting the way you are though.

AND BEFORE YOU TELL SOMEONE THAT THERE COMMENT IS STUPID YOU SHOULD LOOK AT THE FACT THAT COPS ARE GETTING KILLED FOR MAKING SIMPLE TRAFFIC STOPS ALL THE TIME SO DONT GIVE ME THAT CRAP!I WATCHED THE VIDEO AND WHAT I SAW IS A BUNCH OF PEOPLE NOT LISTENING TO HIS DIRECTIONS AND HE WAS BY HIMSELF AT THE BEGINNING!BUT IM SURE YOU AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT IS CONDEMNING HIS ACTIONS WOULD HAVE DONE MUCH BETTER!!AND AFTER FOUR COPS WERE JUST GUNNED DOWN WHILE MAKING A SIMPLE TRAFFIC STOP IM SURE HE WASNT THINKING ABOUT BEING MISTER COMPASSIONATE AND JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE HED BE GOING HOME TO HIS FAMILY WHEN HIS SHIFT WAS OVER!

HAHAHAHA IM NOT YELLING ABOUT IT AND IM NOT WANTING TO START AN ARGUMENT.JUST MAKING A POINT!sorry about the caps thing i dont pay attention to caps or not.i understand that moats and family were in a distressed situation but they could have just followed directions and not overwhelmed a lone police officer!and it probably would have been alot easier for him to get things straight with what was going on!

Doesn't matter. The cops are beyond reproach. At least that's what I've been told.

Really? That's what you have been told? Not by anyone here.

This is a story about a cop with poor judgement who acted badly.

Even bringing up Marshawn Lynch or somehow equating this story with Lynch's actually breaking the law reveals how desperate you are to salvage your "they should have checked the pot for DNA" doozie, and how pathologic your attachment to this kid truly is.

You don't pay attention to caps, or spaces, which makes it difficult to read. All I'm trying to relay to you, is to fix the way you express your opinion if you want to be taken seriously.

Dallas police chief's opinion: cop's behavior very embarrassing.

Usually the party line is stick by your officers. This case was pretty egregious, and most folks with common sense would recognize that. I'm really glad for the dash cam. Pretty sure we'd be hearing a different story otherwise. The chief even indicates that the cop was lying to the Plano officer immediately after the fact about the details of the 'pursuit'.

From the press conference:

"I certainly hope anybody who saw the videotape immediately understood how serious the misconduct is," Chief Kunkle said Thursday afternoon. "I don't know how you train for these circumstances other than to hire people with good common sense and people skills."

I saw the video and read the transcript, and there is no doubt that the police officer shouldn't lose his job. The only crime he committed was being a jerk. He's a young cop full of piss & vinegar, he should of let Moats go and see his stepmother. So what Powell lacked, was common sense and sympathy. Neither of the two are a crime and definitely nothing to lose his job over.

I would have to say, the punishment for Powell is being served as we speak. Half the country believes he's an azz, and he will be ridiculed for years to come.

According the the Dallas police chief, officer Powell may be charged for conduct reflecting poorly on the department, for his threats of arrest, and for possible false statements, any and all of which could lead to his dismissal. IMO, with the tone the Dallas PD is taking on this, he will lose his job.

Most white cops have no clue how to deal with minorities. It is just a real shame. For the most part I believe racial relations especially amongst blacks and whites are much better than when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's. However, that seems to be more the case amongst somewhat educated white people. A lot of cops are just stupid meatheads who use their badge as an excuse to bully people especially black males. It is too bad that cops get paid so poorly, because if they were paid better, maybe their would be a higher quality cop who had an ounce of common sense. Until than, black athletes will be on the most wanted list of most police departments.

All you conservatives on the board can flame away if you like now.

You must not have much experience with cops. It's easy to take the bad apples and make them the rule of thumb but try and look at things as a whole. You are going to find alot more good guys, who take pride in their jobs. The stereotype, is the white meathead who is out to break skulls. This image is a dying one. Police departments are more diversified than ever and racism is a career killer. Still it's the bad cops who make the headlines and fuel the hatred. Generalizing white cops is no better than bad cops generalizing black athletes. Do you think Pacman, Chris Henry, and Frostee Rucker are good representatives of todays black athlete? I don't but it's always the top story. The media does a poor job of potraying many people in this world and you have to filter that, SCHITT. It always seems to be human nature to put people into groups and give them labels. LOL, even when you are trying to combat racism, you use stereotypes to form an opinion of a group.

no they aren't thats the point..instead of thinking you know everything y don't you try listening to others and taking some advice....

And the whole "i don't pay attention to caps is BS..you had to turn it on and turn it off so you were paying attention and knew exactly what you were doing don't play it off lmao...

Well, if he lied and made a false report, that is another story, and that could be grounds for dismissal. I would have to imagine that the publics ire over this matter will be the main reason that the Dallas PD will look to dismiss him.

I haven't heard that this guy committed any crimes. But I think police officers' conduct - and really, anyone's professional conduct - has to be regulated by more than just the criminal codes. Cops' highest job is to serve the public interest, and when they dramatically fail, they should be held accountable. And it sounds like the Dallas PD is working on it.

Well, he is a public servant, and basic common sense is required for pretty much every job in both the public and private sectors. Here his supervisors are saying he lacks it, even in hindsight. He doesn't see anything wrong with how he handled the situation. Some folks just aren't cut out for police work.

D) Some people are dicks. Some people are cops. Ergo, some dicks are cops.

...maybe I've just been studying too much formal logic lately, but this is not a true statement. Compare it to "Some people play in the NFL. Some people play in the NHL. Ergo, some NHLers play in the NFL."

You can say, of course, that given the fact that there are an enormous number of dicks in this country, and a huge number of cops, it's almost certain that there are !@#$ cops in the US. But it's not logically certain, just practically.

Best way to put it.

The vast majority of cops are incredible people. Unfortunately those who aren't wield a lot of power and that causes big problems for relations. A few bad cops can make an entire police force look dirty.
