The Tomcat Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Maybe Waters is moving? fingers crossed http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/03/25/...-add-mike-goff/ Chiefs Add Mike Goff Posted by Mike Florio on March 25, 2009, 3:06 p.m. EDT Veteran offensive lineman Mike Goff is staying in the division. Goff, who has spent the past five years with the Chargers, has agreed to terms with the Chiefs, according to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star. The disclosure of the acquisition of Goff represents one of the rare occasions on which a Chiefs transaction has been reported before being officially announced by the team. Per Teicher, Goff could start for the team at center or right guard. Before joining San Diego, Goff spent six years with the Bengals. He has started every game since 2003. Since the start of the 2000 season, he has started all but three games.
CJPearl2 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 No! It doesn't look like it. He could play center or back up Waters. Stop reading into things. By the way, is Scheffler in camp yet? We traded for him, right?
Magox Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Well, I'd have to say that Waters is now more expendable than before. Waters is now a more likely option to be traded to Buffalo than he was yesterday.
ax4782 Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 The article cited indicates that Goff is likely to play Right Guard for the Chiefs. That seems to indicate that they are set at left guard, the position Waters currently occupies. I read this as the Chiefs making a strong move to shore up a horrible offensive line to protect their new "franchise" QB rather than a signal that Waters is on the outs. Maybe that's true, but I don't think that the Goff signing is of any particular import on that issue.
lets_go_bills Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 I hope we get Waters. The reports on billsdaily.com that say we're letting Chambers and Bell battle it out for the LG spot make me uneasy.
bills_fan Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wonder why we did not bring in Goff, he seems like a decent player.
lets_go_bills Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wonder why we did not bring in Goff, he seems like a decent player. I wondered that too. He's solid.
VOR Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 Wonder why we did not bring in Goff, he seems like a decent player. This is what RotoWorld had to say about Goff signing with the Chefs: Chiefs signed OL Mike Goff, formerly of the Chargers.Goff hasn't missed a start since 2002, but is 33 and his play dropped off markedly last year. Ideally, he'll be a backup at guard and center in K.C. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...=NFL&id=575
Kelly the Dog Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 This is what RotoWorld had to say about Goff signing with the Chefs: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpag...=NFL&id=575 Maybe the league knows the guy can't play anymore and he will finish his career as a back-up. That's entirely possible. What is more possible, however, is that he still believes he can play and start. I doubt a guy like that would take the first offer and sign with a crappy team he will not play on.

Depends on the offers he was getting, or not getting. Vet minimum to be a backup is still a pretty good gig, versus being unemployed and making nothing.
The Dean Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 No! It doesn't look like it. Really? http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nf...z-johnson_N.htm Waters requested a trade after flying back to Kansas City in February to meet with the team's new general manager and being told Pioli wasn't interested. http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/03/24/te-gonzale...in-with-chiefs/ Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said Tuesday at the NFL Annual Meeting that the team will keep veteran tight end Tony Gonzalez, the longtime face of the franchise who was the subject of trade rumors last year. Running back Larry Johnson and offensive lineman Brian Waters reportedly are another story, http://kan.scout.com/2/850538.html Goff's addition could mean one of a few things. The first might point toward an answer for the Brian Waters conundrum. If the Chiefs are unhappy with Waters' request to be traded or released, and intend to give him what he wants Maybe a little?
Chandler#81 Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I hope we get Waters. The reports on billsdaily.com that say we're letting Chambers and Bell battle it out for the LG spot make me uneasy. That would suck! If this is the case, then that can only mean one thing: the TSW gang doesn't know squat and is wasting their time here trying to assign accurate blame and brainstorming solutions to get this team over the hump.. If this is the case, then WE suck!

I for one would think we should give Chambers a chance at guard. He has played pretty well the limited time he's been in there, including at guard. He's got as a better chance to do something than any of the mediocre free agents we're likely to bring in. We can draft some depth.
