thewildrabbit Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Crabtree could be that guy on the other side of Lee Evans for the next 6 years, like Boldin and Fitz in Ariz, TO is most likely history after this season anyway. Sanchez could be a backup to Edwards who seems to be made of glass and who knows how many games he will actually play in this season with another makeshift O line and no decent blocking TE. If the O line can jell and Edwards can stay upright then perhaps use Sanchez as trade bait and get 2 #1 picks or more from a desperate team in need of a starting QB. Or do the Bills go after the # 59th rated player to fill a need, like they did with DW

BeastMode54 Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 I don't think it would be easy to pass up on a talent like Crabtree, but we have too many holes to take a WR with the first pick. If he falls it could be a perfect trade down scenario, but I really don't see any way he gets to #11

jscap Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Trade down. Agree w/ beastmode...to many other holes. And i'm sick of California QB's who struggle here in the cold.
Pete Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 haha. draft a QB @ #11 to be a BACKUP?!? And as much as I like Crabtree- we are way set at WR too

San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 "then perhaps use Sanchez as trade bait and get 2 #1 picks or more from a desperate team in need of a starting QB." Wildrabbit does actually bring up an interesting point. The practice of drafting a player you don't need, to use as trade bait for a trade down. In the NBA it's actually very common to draft a player in the first round and then trade him. If teams know the Bills will not draft certain players then they have less motivation to trade for the Bills pick. They can be forced to engage the Bills in trade talks if the Bills draft their targeted player. The downside of course is in a worst case scenario where we end up stuck with the player. Regardless it's an interesting concept. Didn't Evans only sign a 3 year deal? He actually signed a 4 year, $37.25 million which ties him up through the 2012 season. Trade down. Agree w/ beastmode...to many other holes. And i'm sick of California QB's who struggle here in the cold. Yeah those soft Cali quarterbacks like Tom Brady in New England and Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. It's not about where they come from dude.

KollegeStudnet Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Can we stop this madness... The Bills are stacked at WR The Bills are not going after Cutler The Bills are set at QB Crabtree is a great player, but will be gone by 11th Sanchez is the Mexican version of JP Loseman and he's probably going to drop to Tampa or further... Honestly Whatever happened to the talk of getting something we need like another DT, DE, OLB, S...possibly a few more O-lineman...maybe some TE depth

stuckincincy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Pass, and pass, unless we find a trade partner to move down a few spots, neither is an area of need. Yep. Crabtree has a bum foot. Those injuries return.
Stl Bills Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 Yep. Crabtree has a bum foot. Those injuries return. He's also the best player in the draft, those players usually aren't around at 11.

Evans Owens Crabtree hmm... with a little bit of protection on Edwards I'd say that's just about an indefensible trio.

Astrobot Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 There is a host of very good WR's in this draft around 4th-5th Round (Turner, Gibson, Wallace, Cosby). Don't pick a WR before then. I hope we aren't considering anything but a tradedown if glamourous shiny names start falling--unless one of them is named Maybin or Brown. Sanchez is a system success. Stafford is the real deal, but won't make it to our pick, so other teams trading up for Stafford won't be happening.

I fully agree that WR is not a need on this team but if the best player in the draft somehow falls to 11, you pull the trigger. Its not going to happen though, but fun to think about.
stuckincincy Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 He's also the best player in the draft, those players usually aren't around at 11. A draft wow-wee player - sure he is. With a bum foot. Such injury has a tendency to come back. There is no part of the body under constant stress, like the foot. A risky pick IMO.
