Top 8 Draft Prospects for Bills

i'm really hoping for raji or brown out of that #11 pick, and it might happen.......i know people are saying they'll likely be off the board by the time our pick rolls around, and that is certainly possible, but everyone needs to remember that there is usually a surprise or two in the top 10 that pushes a projected top 10 guy down the order a bit......last year it was derrick harvey and jerod mayo who very few had in their mock top 10 but went 8th and 10th respectively

Well, they like Maybin more than I do, but I have to say, he did have one hell of an improvement in his pro day workout. There were a lot of questions if he could carry the added 25 lbs. His scouting day combine was a disappointment. But the way he exploded on his pro day was impressive. However, I am skeptical of the jump in performance, but if everything is legit, then no doubt in my view, he catapaulted his way back into the top 15.

I also believe Raji should of been rated higher, but they like him to.

Clay Matthews, I've been screaming this for a while, I absolutely believe that he will be the 2nd best LB out of this year's draft. I think they hit the nail right on the head.

Has anybody seen Maybin play at this new weight?? All we've seen is him run slow at it at the Combine and run fast at it at his Pro Day. Have you ever heard of anybody (except maybe Andre Smith) having a poor Pro Day? Those things are set up for the athletes to succeed. The combine is a level playing field and Maybin basically failed that test. Pass.

Has anybody seen Maybin play at all? There is almost nothing on YouTube. There's tons of stuff on Everette Brown on the other hand. I don't know how anyone can have an opinion about a player who they haven't watched play or at least seen some video of.

Naa, I've seen the videos on ESPN like everyone else. I've looked at his stats and while impressive, they were done at a completely unsustainable weight. If he had come to the combine and run a sub 4.6 at that weight I would have been impressed; running a 4.89 has danger signs all over it. Dwight Freeney was "undersized" at 6'1" 268 lbs., running a 4.38 40. Maybin at 6'3" 249 lbs. running basically a 4.9? Are you kidding me?? I don't think that's something a few clips of him beating some worthless college tackles is going to change my mind. If he can beat Jake Long, Matt Light, and D'Brickashaw Furgueson, I'll be impressed.

Well with the "addressing" of the open OLB spot on defense with a non-starting quality player (Pat Thomas), I'm thinking along with those people who believe the Bills might be looking at linebacker rather than defensive end with the first pick.

Either position can be a situational pass rusher and with Schobel presumably coming back an argument can be made that linebacker is a greater need (Pat Thomas is penciled in as the starter right now).

How that regards Maybin is that he could lose some (not necessarily all) of that weight and regain some of his quickness and play linebacker. Another candidate for LB at #11 would be Clay Matthews.

I'm not advocating linebacker over DE but merely stating that this could be the Bills' thinking.

Does anybody know if Maybin can even play LB? From what it sounds like to me he's a pass rushing specialist like Bryce Paup or T. Suggs. Can he cover? Can he drop into a zone? Can he recognize plays? Can he get off of downfield blocking? Since we don't really blitz our LB's he doesn't seem like a good fit for us at any position.

I saw him play several games (on TV) last year, and he is unbelievably quick and fast to the QB. He isn't the disaster in the running game, some claim him to be, either...at least at the college level, he wasn't.

With that said, I think he is a gamble (with a huge upside), as he should have stayed another year in College, IMO. But, that's hard to argue, when he is likely to be a high first round pick.

I hope the Bills go with someone who is closer to a "sure thing", but if they pick Maybin (who they seem to be high on), I'll be excited to watch him play.
