Sure, he was still around because Cartman drank his ashes thinking it was a hot chocolate mix, but he didn't appear for a while. They had that whole season where Butters and then Tweak took his place as the 4th friend.

No, actually after they brought him back they haven't been killing him off at the end IIRC he's only died twice since being brought back. Last week's episode and the season finale a year or two ago (episode where the girls make a list... bebe pulls a gun on wendy, gun goes off but neither is hit. then they cut to the mccormicks eating dinner and the bullet hits kenny )
