Tipster19 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 I was thinking that Penn St's DE Aaron Maybin would be a good pick for us at the #11 spot but I must admit that his time at the Combine has me concerned. Others have mentioned Georgia Tech's DE Michael Johnson but both of these two players have also been projected to go as low as somewheres in the 2nd rd. We need to be very careful with our first pick so I was wondering what kind of input the board would have on LSU's DE Tyson Jackson. He's strong, good against the run and versatile. What would the consensus be if we were to take him and put him in the middle primarily? Also with his versatility he could be used all up and down the DLine like a Richard Seymour. It would be nice to pair him with Stroud and to prepare for the future. http://walterfootball.com/pro2008tjackson.php http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dspro...9&genpos=DE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5MeTrQ124Q...feature=related http://www.draftcountdown.com/rankings/de.php Some thoughts on some our other early picks. I would love to see us take Oklahoma's OG Duke Robinson and then with our 3rd pick, regardless if it's in the 3rd rd or if we would have to trade up to be able to take him, would be South Carolina's TE Jared Cook. Check both of these players out on the last link (draftcountdown.com/rankings) that I provided. So, would this be an acceptable draft to all with our first 3 picks?
Shanahan's Horseshoe Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Jackson is a big DE who does not get out of the blocks all that quickly. He is more of a shade DE because of his size and strength. Go back and watch the National Championship game, Duke got beat and had HUGE penalties and looked slooooowww. From an athletic standpoint, Jared Cook looks to be the real deal.

Thanks for your insights. I'm thinking that Tyson Jackson might be a better DT than a DE, especially a Cover 2 DT because it doesn't appear that McCargo is going to be the answer.
Tonawanda Troy Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Maybe in the 2nd round, We can do better with #11.
RockPile007 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Maybe in the 2nd round, We can do better with #11. What he said.
San Jose Bills Fan Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 He looks pretty large for sure. I'm in that group that really feels strongly about getting an exceptional pass rusher. Tyson looks like a fine football player who can play any D-line position but he's not really that explosive pure pass rushing type that I feel we need. I like Robert Ayers quite a bit having just watched his Youtube stuff. He has good size for an end but also explosive bursts of movement. At any rate #11 is too high for Jackson IMO.
ericwhit4 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Ayers would be a great pick, i saw his youtube footage as well recently
