One of the main points is this bit:

Last year, the Jets gave the Dolphins the gift of Chad Pennington. This year, they kept their hands in their pockets and allowed a division rival to swoop in and get Owens. Tom Brady is back with New England; Miami, because of the Jets, is revived; and Buffalo has T. O. Just like that, the balance of power in the American Football Conference East has changed, and the Jets could be at the bottom looking up.

Also has some interesting points about how TO has been cast as the villian in a few different situations where it may not be so straightforward. In any case, I good article by the Grey Lady...

I think Rex Ryan will build that team around the defense. He's got the parts in Kris Jenkins, Scott, Pace, David Harris, Darrelle Revis, and Kerry Rhodes.

Their team will bear a striking and not so coincidental resemblance to Baltimore: Fine defense but anemic offensively.

I think Ryan's big problem is that he has a crummy GM instead of Ozzie Newsome. While he can live off Ravens' acquistions he'll be okay, but if I'm not confident that franchise can build a team on its own.

The Jets have been mostly dysfunctional throughout their history. Of course they did hit pay dirt once upon a time...

I didn't realize that there were 2 other WR's who also went with TO to Jason Garrett to complain about Romo forcing the ball to Witten.

The press likes to press on T.O. alot, it's always been that way.

Well, he's brought a certain amount of it on himself. And it's no different for Buffalo. I remember the CBA and the "experts" knee-slapping at senile old Ralph's nay vote over the CBA because he "didn't understand it." When in reality he said that as a joke and said that "the players got too much." Which ultimately proved to be prophetic.

I should know better.

I've been saying this for a couple weeks now. The Jets are worse off today then they were at the end of last season.

Bart Scott is an upgrade, but not as much as everyone makes him out to be, there is no doubt, with all that talent he had around him, will make any player look better.

Lito Sheppard couldn't even start for his own team, so he's not too much of an upgrade.

Jim Leonard is small and slow and undoubtedly looked a whole lot better than what he was in the Ravens system, and I can't wait for T.O and Lee Evans to rip him up in center field.

Jet's lost Brett Favre and have no one as of now that can step in and fill his shoes. This is where they will really hurt.

Laverneous Coles, arguably their best WR is gone and Baker a decent Receiving TE is gone.

I have little doubt in my mind that we not only gained ground, but surpassed them talent wise.

I am psyched about this season

And remember, Buffalo was only a hair behind the Jets last season anyway - take away the Losman fumble, and both teams were 8-8. They've been suffering from some seriously bad drafting. Looking over their first selections:

2008: Vernon Gholston. So far, a megabust, though Ryan could revive him

2007: Darrelle Revis is much better, I can't knock them here.

2006: D'Brickashaw Ferguson was a good choice at the time, but has struggled at times to adapt to the pro game.

2005: No first round pick, selected Mike Nugent first at #47. Off the team.

2004: Jonathan Vilma is off the team.

2003: DeWayne Robertson is long gone.

That's a lot of whiffs - and that '03-'05 chunk is where their real veteran stars should be coming from.

I'm just glad that we finally signed a difference maker on our team because that is exactly what Owens will be. His signing makes the offense take a step up to another level. The pressure it will take off of Evans alone is worth the $6.5 million we are going to pay him this coming season. He also will mentor the younger guys for certain. There isn't a guy in the NFL who stays in better shape and trains harder than Owens. He learned about how important the physical conditioning was from Jerry Rice who took him under his wing in San Fran. Jerry Rice has alot to do with why Owens has been the player he's been unto this day. If he can have the same kind of impact on Hardy and Johnson it will benefit the Bills organization for years to come. The media will be the media, looking for something to try to read into at every glance. That's just who they are. I, for one, believe that Owens will be on his best behavior because he knows that he's only got about 3 years left in the game. Overall, CB is not one of the strongest positions in the AFC East. The Jets have Revis, the Pats have a platoon of guys, and the Dolphins don't really have any "lock down" guys either. There will be alot of roasted DB's when we have our offense on the field this year. Our problem with all of those teams though was being able to block their 7 guys closest to the line of scrimmage. Hopefully Hangartner will be able to handle all of the NT's that we will face this season and hopefully we upgrade the LG position like is needed. I also am hoping that the coaching staff has been working hard to come up with a strategy against the 3-4, blocking and play calling in general that Trent could run successfully. I don't know who will be at the bottom of the AFC East this year, but I would bet my house we will not go 0-6 again.

Scott will look nothing like he did in Baltimore without those other guys. Jenkins is on the downside of his career and struggles to make it through a 16 game season. I think the Jets are in a lot of trouble this season.
