My Thoughts On T.O.

Recommended Posts

First and foremost...I have honestly NEVER despised ANYBODY in sports, the way I have Terrell Owens.

Now, with that being said, I want to shed some light on this situation.

Ok, here goes...

1.) This signing will get us A LOT of NATIONAL attention. Already has, but I also mean "Primetime" games and much more.

2.) This signing will make us more than the $6.5 million that we spent on him. (Jerseys, T-Shirts, TICKETS.)

3.) Terrell Owens IMMEDIATELY makes this Offense a Top-10 Offense.

4.) He also makes Lee Evans a Pro-Bowler...maybe even Trent Edwards. If Cutler can go, why not Trent, eh?

5.) Coles wanted more money, is not NEARLY as good, he's a smurf...and he would have cried for the ball too.

6.) T.O. is nearing the end. He will want to prove himself, all while making the guys around him better.

7.) Terrell will help us land better, much needed Free Agents in the next couple days/weeks.

8.) Peters will re-sign within a month or so.

9.) T.O. will help Hardy develop a work ethic, skills and a solid frame in the weight room. He will learn to use his large body.

10.) This guy will bring MUCH NEEDED SWAGGER to our beloved Buffalo Bills football team!

*I am all for this signing. If it doesn't work out...it is only for a year. We might as well try it...giving 100% support. At least we are trying to make the team better. This move speaks LOUDLY about our team and desire to win. I am happy!

I agree with you, there is more upside with TO than downside. Without him the Bills were going to struggle, with him we now have a chance. And like you said, its only for a year, which is about what I see left in this current team anyway. If they had another bad season, I could see Wilson cleaning house and us Bills fans going through another mediocre rebuilding.

I agree with some of what you say. But, I think you are drawing some pretty big conclusions there. And believe me, I really want to feel enthusiastic about this move, for some of the reasons you stated. But, something deep down is keeping me from feeling great about it. It kind of pains me that the Bills, as you say, will be getting a LOT of NATIONAL attention, but it will mostly be focused on "Is TO happy?" "How do his teammates feel about TO?" "Does TO like little Buffalo?" "Is TO's reality show causing a distraction for the team?" "Where does TO rank Trent Edwards, in comarison to Romo?" "What kind of a realtionship does TO have with coach Jauron?" , blah, blah, blah...

Living in the middle of Cowboys country, and seeing the Cowboys fans experience the inevitable "falling out of love with TO" I have taken some quiet solace in the fact that "at least the Bills don't have jerks like TO on the team:...and if they did, the Bills don't get enough media attention for the average, non-Bills fan, NFL follower to even notice.

Two days ago, Cowboys fans around here were breathing a sigh of relief, "diablo" was gone... now, out of nowhere, this guy, whose every newspaper story, and feature story on sports news, I have gone out of my way to ignore for the last few years, has been thrust into the role as the face of my favorite sports team...I suspect I will get over it. I came to terms with the fact that my childhood sports hero is a murderer, I can put up with Terrell Owens for a year or two...I just sort of wish I didn't have to make that choice.

I am being very honest, when the Bills signed Doug Flutie, I felt sick. I think he and Terrell Owens are two of my least favorite mdoern NFL players, and I loathed both, before they donned a Bills uniform. I learned to disassociate my dislike for Flutie from my wishes for the team, I suspect I can do the same with Owens. I just wish I didn't feel like I had to force myself. I don't doubt that he was once very talented, and likely has some game left. I just honestly hope he has a change of heart, and takes the fact that he has been run out of three NFL cities, with storied franchises, much less appreciated than he was when he got there. Three out three, you have to admit, his propensity for wearing out his welcome is pretty high.

Which is why no other team in the NFL wanted him.

Wrong. There werfe 6 teams interested in him.

But assuming the Bills were the only team; so what? The Bills got a difference-maker on offense.
