Wacka
Catholic Charities moved out of SF because the City and County (one in the same) told them they must make available medical insurance to domestic partnersof employees.
bills_fan
The question here is, can bar owners be mandated or forced BY THE GOVERNMENT to prohibit smoking on private property? Once the government forces a private business to prohibit a lawful act, then freedom dies in this country. It's not a question of individual freedom, as smoking is legal. It's the government telling an private organization that it MUST prohibit this lawful act...even if they don't want to, or if it goes against private property laws. Private property laws cannot be trampled on, as they are protected by centuries of caselaw, for the individual, for churches, and for religious organizations and businesses. Hope you also agree with the bolded changes above....
Joe Miner
Hope you also agree with the bolded changes above.... I do, and I don't smoke. My capitalist colors are showing, but people will vote with their pocketbooks, and don't need gov't dictating business. Private businesses, from bars to hospitals, should be allowed to provide the legal products or services they want. It's like complaining about the music a radio station plays. If you don't like it, turn the knob. Don't look to the gov't to turn it for you.

Gene Frenkle
Can there be a debate and open teaching on intelligent design in public schools? Of course not because it doesn't fit ideology, and they are 100% non-private and yet they restrict schools through the ACLU. Can I keep making examples for you? There is no scientific debate on intelligent design because intelligent design is not founded on any scientific principles. No matter how many times creationism is repackaged and rebranded and slipped back in to the public schools it is always shot down, and rightfully so. It is the definition of ideology and not science - there is no debate. Bottom line is this is far more damaging than you realize, and I hope Catholic hospitals close if this is true. I hope good doctors go to other countries, which will be the inevitable, and the OB-GYNs continue to leave the field. Maybe they can be replaced by lawyers. Way to stand by your convictions. That'll show em.
Wacka
I'm not going to hijack this thread but I have been trying to debate ID with creationists on a political site I'm on. They say evolution is junk, but have no proof for it except that nature is so complicated, god must have done it. Their stubborness reminds me of the Obamabots on the PPP. Personal Incredulity - "I can't believe something so complicated could have happened naturally" (it's called evolution) God of the Gaps - "Science can't explain everything" (true, but God's house of gaps continues to get smaller - on the other hand it gets bigger as well as more questions arise)

Yeah, far better for the sick and dying currently being treated in these hospitals should be forced out because they've been closed. Better still that qualified medical personnel, most notably nurses, should practice in another country because that'll teach the government a lesson. Too bad that the people in their local communities will suffer due to the lack of qualified practioners. The hypocrisy of these self-righteous religious zealots NEVER ceases to amaze me.
