Can Bills Ask For Federal Bailout? TARP?

Recommended Posts

seriously you have failing banks like citi and bofa sucking in hundreds of billions more every week it seems. same for insurer AIG. i-banks morgan and goldman drank from the well. as are automakers GM and chrysler. 1 out of 9 mortgage borrowers is about to get federal assistance.

so really is a measly $100 million over 5 years too much to ask so we the long suffering, broke and broken-hearted fans can field a competitive team?

How about the money Bloomberg was going to spend to build the Jets a stadium in Manhatten?

why was it bills could afford the best talent in the league in the early 90s when buffalo was equally depressed, yet now we're down to picking up a backup guard to start at center?

If you had the desire to you could find the answers.

The Erie County population in 1990 was 968,000. It is currently about 913,000. So the population and the tax base have gone down about 6%.

The revenue sharing formula for the NFL is increasingly disadvantageous to teams like the Bills. The salary cap is based on team revenues. The Bills rank 27th in team revenues. Everyone harps on how far below we are below the cap. But our team revenues and operating budget are extremely low. We'd could never spend to the cap because the team would be hemorrhaging money.

The salary cap is irrelevant.

The Bills have the second lowest ticket prices in the league.

Fifteen NFL cities have at least 5 Fortune 500 companies. Buffalo, Erie County have none.

When the 2009 Season kicks off, the Bills will be playing in the 3rd oldest stadium in the league. Only San Diego, Oakland, and San Francisco have older stadiums. Lambeau and Soldier have been renovated so extensively that they are not considered the same stadium.

The truth is, there is a very real question of whether this community can support a pro sports team. People always want to bring in Rochester and Southern Ontario but the fact remains that the Bills territory is one of the smallest and poorest in the NFL.
