Lori Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 You've had bad luck with technology lately: losing that Brickbreaker game and now this? ESPN doesn't provide you with a snazzy computer? Guessing he's on the hook for his own gear at the WWL. Actually, if this was the same one that hiccuped while he was still on the Sabres beat, I'd be more surprised to learn that the BuffNews doesn't provide work laptops.

Buffalo News does provide laptops. But I've always used my own equipment.
TimGraham Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Exactly. The last time I spoke with Terry was probably four years ago. Funny story. One of my work study jobs was to help Coach Schaly and Paul Spear (our lead trainer) with fitness training for the team in January and February before baseball season. I would help the training staff put the team through their weight and aerobic training. I almost killed Terry one day. Marietta is very hilly and we would do repeats on the hill up to Marietta Memorial hospital. One day on about the 3rd time up the hill -- I stayed back to push the laggards and I look at Terry about halfway up the hill and he's white as a ghost. I grab him, sit him down, tell him to stay--grab a wheel chair and push him 150 yards or so to the emergency room. Terry never had to run hills again. I was relentless in teasing him -- gave him an academy award at the post season banquet. He had a decent career--the no hitter, lots of stops along the way. Wonderful and humble guy. That is a great story. You can't accuse a guy of faking paleness. He turned into a helluva hitter (by a pitcher's standards) late in his career.
Lori Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 Buffalo News does provide laptops. But I've always used my own equipment. Sensible choice, and even more so these days. No waiting for an IT department to fix something, or getting stuck with obsolete equipment. When David Andriesen went to turn in his stuff at the (dearly departed) Seattle P-I, they told him not to bother bringing the laptop, because it was so antiquated they had no use for it. And most company-issued rigs probably don't come with beefed-up memory, DVD players, and cool games, either ...

I'm just sayin'...
Lori Posted May 12, 2009 Author Posted May 12, 2009 We're talking about Tim's 'puter, not yours, Dean ... Edit: On that off-key note, this thread is getting a little unwieldy -- I think I actually heard my cellphone scream when I tried to open it the other day -- so this looks like as good a place as any to start a new one. I'll wait a day or two to unpin this one, which is also linked at the top of version 2.0.
