This a list of wide receivers drafted BEFORE Laveranues Coles in the 2000 NFL Draft:

  1. Peter Warrick (CIN)
  2. Plaxico Burress (PIT)
  3. Travis Taylor (BAL)
  4. Sylvester Morris (KC)
  5. R. Jay Soward (JAX)
  6. Dennis Northcutt (CLE)
  7. Todd Pinkston (PHI)
  8. Jerry Porter (OAK)
  9. Ron Dugan (CIN)
  10. Dez White (CHI)
  11. Chris Cole (DEN)
  12. Ron Dixon (NYG)

Besides Coles, only one other receiver drafted that year has yet to make it to the Pro Bowl: Dante Hall!

I thought it was a nice tidbit given the orgy of draft coverage we're in for over the next two months and how completely irrelevant it all proves to be!

Go Bills!

That list is more sad than funny.

Which is kinda funny.

I actually went through and looked at all the wide receivers drafted since then. Holy Cow! Just a couple diamonds, a TON of rough. I don't follow college football, so I find it AMAZING how many early picks I've still never heard of, and then suddenly, in a late round, a Pro Bowler will pop up. Makes you wonder about the Hardy pic, but if you believe there's a yin for every yang, it makes you excited for the Steve Johnson pick!

I really felt bad for that kid. He had all kinds of potential. He had some great games and, if he could have stayed healthy, you'd be referring to him in the same sentences as Moss, Fitzgerald, and Steve Smith.

Man WR seems to be really hit or miss. No wonder teams lock up WR's when they get great ones.

I'm sure if you were a casual fan of the NFL, there's a chance you've heard of Lee Evans, but the rest of our guys, not so much. I said last year that the team needs injections of veteran leadership all over the place. Considering these thoughts, I think the addition of Coles would do us very well!

That Pinkston fella could get tackled by a blade of grass.

You're on drugs (or you should be). He was a return specialist, nothing more, nothing less. A quicker Roscoe Parrish.
